says it needs some work, but, based on the description, how difficult and costly would this fix be?

i understand, for a swap, that there'd be a lot more parts involved, but does this seem like a sweet deal, as is?

Thats a good deal, even for just a core.

As far as rebuilding goes you won't know what you need until you open it up. If its rod noise like it suggest it could range from just bearings but more likely the crank will need to be turned, theres no way to know if this was a big boost motor until this happened.

If it was close by I would get it just for the heads.
