Do a search over here:

http://bbs.legacycentral.org/

It is dedicated to the gen 1 leggy's. Some knowledgeable guys over there IMO.

You most likely will have to bang in part of the firewall. If you get a FXT tmic you will have no problems. That's what I ended up getting.

I installed a MY02 WRX TMIC in my '92 turbo and you have to relocate the ignitor and wiring harness, rearrange the firewall and ignitor mounting area (bash the hell out of it), cut about an 1/8" to 1/4" off the throttle body and relocate the coolant tank. Then you will also need custom compressor oulet to y-pipe plumbing and DV (diverter valve) plumbing. It can be done and the end result is worth it.

Good luck!

thanks for the replys.
I'v been to legacycentral.org/ and yes very helpful

also located a 02 impreza tmic c/w intake hose.

With the existing wastgate, do I need a BOV, or just close off the opening?

I mounted a JDM slanty intercooler from an early WRX into mine. No hammering needed. I moved the coolant tank and the ignitor, but you COULD leave the tank there. My tank had broken a nipple already so I thought it would be safer. Good luck

Man, does that bring back memmories! I did that to my 91 SS about 8 or 9 years ago. Worked great, never had a problem.

An 06 TMIC WILL WORK FINE NO BANGING, AND YOU DONT HAVE TO RELOCATE ANYHTING, JUST THE REAR CENTRE CENSOR, AND THE HARNESS, CAKE. AND THE PLUMBING MENTIOND EARLY ON. I HAVE IT WITH A TD04 AND RESULT hellagood

I can tell you that the 06 fxt intercooler will work better than one from a 02-05 and better than the sti's just on clearence issues. When I swaped between the two the 06 was less laggy. in order for you to run any of these intercoolers you will have to make an extension pipe from the turbo outlet(charge side) to the y of the intercooler inlet.
