Are headers supposed to be torqued on? if so, i need a good alternative for a torque wrench, or maybe just a suggestion///

WTH? I think she may have been talking about the bolts that hold the headers to the heads.

Usually they do want you to torque header bolts. Since I don't have my manual handy I couldn't tell you what that value is though.
As for an alternative you could do what I do on my bike. The exhaust bolts were to be 18lbft. Well, I can't get a tourque wrench on any of the bolts so I just snug the bolts down and then give them about a 1/4 turn after it actually started to take some effort to turn the wrench. In other words I just guess. Then after a couple hundred miles I go back over all the bolts to see if any have loosened. Or you could just pick up a torque wrench at sears. They aren't all that expensive. Or if you have a Harbor freight near you they have a couple that would work just fine for less than $30

Oops. Sorry NJ. My mothers name is Norma Jean. See what happens when you AssUMe.
As for the welds I guess it depends on what connection we are talking about. If we are talking about the header to Cat/mid pipe connection then yes, that could very well be welded. I've just never heard of anyone actually welding the headers to the motor.

LMFAO...

"torque" them to a little past hand tight... or 25 ft. lbs. for you weak-indoor types...lol

any more and you run the risk of stripping studs (done it) ...lol

I would have to agree with Tokio and NDBBM, just get them tight and check 'em a few times to make sure that they aren't getting loose on you.

sweet, you play bass too? what do you play? how long?

Sorry for the off topic, but don't see many bass players hanging around..
