Low Fuel Light

Never having gone down to a couple of gallons left in the tank; I've never seen my low fuel light come on. If I turn my ignition to on, should I see it light up with the rest of the lights? I have a 99 BK.

Yes, it should light up when the key is turned to on. It'll go out pretty quick.

You could always drive around with a 2gal. tank of gas in the trunk too. Strap that sucker down good though.

Yeah, I thought about riding around with the gas but I would also have to drive with the windows down 'cause of the fumes.

The light never came on when I turned the key all the way to on. I may have to just go down to the danger zone.

Well, I know that my car will go at least 40 miles after the gas light comes on. I don't even consider getting gas until it's on, unless i'm heading away from civilization.

I drive around with a full 1 gal. jerry can in the back seat of my truck at all times (flaky fuel gauge + 10mpg= running out alot) and have never smelt fuel in the truck.

If you want to test your light, stick a 5 gal fuel jug on the floor in the back seat, it won't go anywhere.

Oh weird. I thought it wasn't coming on at all anymore. I'll pay attention the next time I go out to see if mine lights up at startup.

My light does not come on at startup either. I know it does work cause I drive until it comes on at every tank :lol: Theres usually about 10L (2.6 gallons) left in the tank when the light comes on

Well, its good to know I'm in good company. I guess to make sure I will need to run it close to 2 gals. in the car.

If you want, make a sharp right turn when close to empty. That will usually set off the light for me :lol:

i always drive until i hit the bulb thats when i know ii need to fill up unless i see dirt cheap gas then i also fill up. after i hit the light i can drive till arrow goes beyond last mark for like 20 miles last gas tank i drove till my arrow was maybe 1/32 below last mark and i only put in 15.1 gal out of 16.9 g tank u do the math. when llight comes on you have quite a bit of time to fill up. oh and it never lights up with ignition not in either of my subies.

Dude, it's only 15.9 gallons, and the actual usable gas is more like 15.1ish...you were running on fumes :lol:

dude i have 02 outback with 16.9g tank but even in my old BD the most i ever put was 14.9g and that was way below zero (i couldnt find gas station.)

I usually drive until the light comes on, but when I fill up it usually takes about 14.5 gallons, so I think it comes on rather early. It says in the manual the exact time that it comes on, I think.

Yep. I took shazapple's advice about making a sharp right (well, I had to do it a couple of times) and the light came on. Everyone was right on the money. It came on when there's 2 gallons left in the tank which is a little below the "E" mark for me.
