Got into an accident last night, nobody was injured thankfully. Nobody charged either, but it was the other persons fault. Considering I only have liability insurance, I'm going to have to pay for any repairs out of my pocket, if they are even worth making (and if I can afford them, as I am a student).

If anyone has any rough opinions on what I'm looking at in terms of repairs, let me know. My car hit the other one at about 40 km/h hitting the back left side, T-boning the back left wheel area.

I understand nobody can look under the hood or under the car, but any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Do you post on the Toronto Subaru Club?

Post up in the Legacy forum... there may be some local Legacy owners who can point you in the right direction. As for parts, I have my old set of one piece headlights.

How was no one charged? Can you prove it was their fault? Sounds like they pulled out in front of you, and they should be the ones covering your damages.

I also have a set of headlights i could sell you. They are the 2 piece headlights, just like the ones you have. can you get into the engine bay? Maybe try to take some pics for a better opinion. Does the car still start / run? did you get it towed home? Hopefully you will be able to fix it up.. that really sucks man! Why didnt the other guy have insurance?

Yeah if they're at fault their insurance should pay for it.

Oh, and for stuff you will need.. at the least :

Headlights - $50-100 (i'll sell you mine for $50)
Grill - $20 - 40
Hood - $100 ?
Bumper - $125 new (less used)
Radiator - $not sure

Looks like you might need some 'frame' parts too.. like the headlight housing area.. or whatever its called.. and maybe having some stuff welded?

That really sucks man.. you should have tried to get more info about the guy who caused it.. and least ask him to throw in a bit of cash.

The bumper is 125 new? geez. It's a lot more out here.

Of course, I doubt that includes paint.

if you hit their rear fender, then technically they'd fault you (even if they pulled out in front of you because in their mind, you should have had time to slow down and avoid the accident) unless they came over into your lane which doesn't seem like it's the case.

as for the car, you'll probably need to have a body shop (or use a bfh) straighten out the upper rad support. i'm guessing you'll need a new radiator too. new hood too. the rest has already been mentioned.

from the looks of it though, it hit high enough that it shouldn't have tweaked the subframe and doesn't look like it touched the bumper support either so... although a looking at the pics again, i don't like how one side of the bumper is sitting higher than the other (it may just be the angle of the pics or a sagging bumper cover)

best bet would be to start checking the junkyards in the area.

This looks similar to my accident, if you have frame damage, it will run you $2000 US to fix that, but your cars older so maybe less.

I'd estimating approx. $600-$1000 to fix it all up back to new again. That estimate includes labor and paint.

More than that, if the radiator support is bent. Also, definitely file a claim with them, insurance companies assign fault on their own, independent of if anyone gets a ticket for the accident.

Open the hood and get us a couple of pics of the front of the engine. That will really determine if she is worth saving. IE if the fans went through your timing belt, there may be engine damage.

Other than that. Call your local junk yards and try and find a front cut.

The PO of my car did that and swapped the bumper and hood. I later welded in a the radiator support from that same clip.

The 165 bumper digi is talking about is NOT a GT bumper.

Looks like this thread started off asking about parts, not an introduction about his car.

Yea true.. i dont think those are the GT bumpers now that i think about it. You could find one for around that price.. or cheaper if you looked hard enough however.

Also.. check out www.car-part.com (http://www.car-part.com) .. i found a bunch of the stuff on there that you will need for pretty cheap!

Used you can. But a new bumper is going to run >$300 from the dealer plus paint. None of the aftermarket OEM body part makers currently make a GT bumper.

Oh yea.. were not talking new here. Haha. But used is just as good if its in decent condition and you can get it painted.. if its not already the same color. And i seriously doubt at this point in time he cares about 'show quality'.. he probably just wants to get back on the road and worry about paint and that junk later when he can save up more $. Or least thats how i would think!

And those are all used prices. Here is what I paid @ the dealer on the new parts for these, for your reference:

Headlight assembly and Turn signal assembly: $365.84
GT Hood, unpainted: $394.28

I tried to get these items used online but after working with a couple sellers who kind of dropped off contact after agreeing to sell I decided I couldn't wait anymore and just bit the bullet. And there are never any BD/BG/BKs in the junkyards arond here.
