Headlight prob

This will be the second time I have had to replace the same headlight. And it hasnt been that long. What kind of problem am I looking at?

Did you touch the glass of the bulb at any point between opening the package and having the bulb installed?

No. I installed it my self and it was fine for several months. then last night I noticed it was out again.

If you'v had it for a few months, chances are its just a bad bulb company your using, switch to another. If it was a harness problem the bulb would burn out in seconds and blow fuses.

I guess that does make sense. But what are the odds that the front left bulb has burned out twice now and the right one hasn't?

Sylvania Halogen Xtravisions are decent, better than stock.

I think its just general crappy materials inside. HID bulbs burn up to 12,000k and they last a pretty long time cause thats what they're built for.

The "color temperature" doesn't have much to do with the temperature of the bulb itself.

HIDs last pretty long because they're an arc discharge, no filament to burn out.

You have a GT right? Get Osram Silverstars and never look back. They aren't sold in the US, they're basically Sylvania silverstars without the ricer blue tint and manufactured to much more tighter tolerances. They're probably the brightest 55w halogen bulbs you can get. Nirva Rangepower, Philips xtravision and some other ones are just like the Osrams, too. Just check danielstern lighting for whoever else makes +50% bulbs (the category these fall under).

Even on ebay, it's cheaper than buying SS's from pepboys or something.

Not just Osram Silverstars, get "Osram +50%", or equivalent "Philips VisionPlus" or "Narva Rangepower+50".
These are very good. These are not rated to live very long though (longer than sylvania though), so if you are concerned with length of life - get "+30%" instead. These are still somewhat better than stock, but last quite a while.

How many times did your bulb burn out? twice?
they cost $30 - 50usd?
A set of hids is like $150 on ebay? They last forever!

No, HIDs don't last forever. They have a limited life too. And the guy doesn't have good housings for HIDs, he'd be stretching the limits of safety with the light output vs. the beam pattern.

any 9007 conversion hid kits work. However, since we dont have projectors housings, we will have glares....

There's always the JDM route. Before someone says that its for RHD, you can block the portion of the pattern that spreads the light higher to the left side. This will give you a flat beam pattern so I'm not sure how that would affect the view of objects on the right side of the road: signs, deer, etc...

FYI Andivic has a set that he has converted to LHD and he told me awhile back he'll be parting the headlights out sometime in May :wink:

im happy with the luminicsblubs i put in my integra after eating through silverstars. cant beat a 1 year warrenty!
