what will fit without rubbing stock springs & shocks with some time later to possible spring change.

For practicality and to protect your car from looking gaudy, I'd say stick with 17s...you can fit 18s under there, but you'll basically have rubber bands for tires if you want it to fit.

I'll second that. Also, if you go bigger than 16's, your brakes will look really wimpy, and will have to work harder to stop more moving metal--unless you buy lightweight rims. Also, what area do you live in, if the roads suck, 17's should be your high end.

 I'm pretty paranoid about wheels though.

The other two things you should look at when you're buying wheels is the width of the rim and the offset. They will greatly affect whether you rub or not. The overall diameter between 17's and 18's will be the same as long as you get the proper size tire, so at that point it just comes down to ride quality and looks.

Plus youd look like a monster truck with 18" rims on a non lowered car

i've been looking pretty heavily into getting 18's for my BD...some say they look silly, but THIS THREAD!! (http://www.sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?t=5263&highlight=) shows they can look really freaking slick.

like it was mentioned above, though; offset, rim width, and tirewidth have a ton to do with it.

the 225/40/18 tire on a 18"wheel isn't but a small fraction (.1") of an inch larger than the 225/45/17, which is a popular tire size here for those with the 17's

the offset calculator at 1010wheels.com is a pretty nifty tool to see where you'll be relative to your strut and fenders for a specific wheel/tire size.

but remember, if you go to plus sizing, you better drop that bitch, or it'll be looking silly.

btw, anyone running 17x8 here with a 225 tire? i was wondering if the wheel would fill out past the tire...(tire not wide enough)

Here's a pic of my friend's car with 17x7.5 +48 w/225/45/17:

gracias, the 225 with the 7.5 looks like a better fit than a 8" wide.

I like how those look thanks i'm wanting to keep some clearance for winter here when I put the stock wheels & tires on .

as far as the brakes I got some cross drilled/slotted rotors so that should look nice.

I have a set of prodrive pff7s 18x8 with 225-40-18. I have to lower the car because it looks very high. I might do coilovers.

Compare the 18's to 17's, I actually think the looks are not that far off depending on the rubber you are running.

If you look at the Huffer's White wagon versus my car the differences are minimal.

wow kraziken, a very impressive car, haven't seen a closeup of the brakes. Does stopping hard re-arrange your insides?

The car stops really nice now. The WRX + H6 upgrades were a big improvement. The Brembo enhances it in the fact that it requires less leg effort to get the same results. They came in handy for Autocross.

As for rims, I think for most cars, a +1 wheel upgrade is a pretty conservative upgrade. I think most cars can go plus 2 without going too extreme.

I think in the Nasioc forum someone was running 19's or perhaps it was 20's, and actually were running a bigger tire and rim package. That would throw out the speedo readings. Of course you could get them recalibrated. I think 19's are definately too big. 18's look good on most Impreza's and Legacy's.

strictly my own opinion, but I would not go any bigger than 17's.

I rub on 205/55/16's but my car is pretty low. If I rolled the front fenders it wouldn't rub.

18's would look monsterous on your car. Its all opinion, I just know I myself would never run anything bigger than a 17x7 w/ offset of 48.

Kraziken, are those 18s you are running? what tire size you running?

18 x 7.5.

215/40R/18's. They do not rub.

BD folks are in the same basket as WRX wagons. So if you are wondering about a tire/wheel combo that won't rub, you can research what the WRX wagon folks are using as far as size, width, and offset.

225's on a 8" wide I think will rub, and will probably require some fender rolling.

I would think 215/45/17 I had 225/45/17 on my lowered BD and there was some rubbing on hard corners and big bumps.

BC i just bought some 17'' wheels today. And i rub with my regular 16'' wheels. would it be perfect with those tires and KYB/HR springs set up? I sure hope so

You rub with 16" rims?? I had KYB GR2 struts and H&R springs with a 225/45/17 tires. I think if I went to the 215 series I would have little to no rubbing.

I'm running 18X8 rims on 225-40-18 tires. My car sits high. That is why I'm going with coilovers.

Both 17s and 18s fit fine, it's up to your personal taste.

At stock height it shouldn't be a problem. But he said he is going to lower it at some point. Tire size, offset, rim width plays a roll. You can't just slap 18's on a BD and call it a day. I had 225/45/17 with a 48 offset tires has wider sidewalls. My fenders were slightly rolled and they still rubbed. IF I had 215 series I may have gotten away with that.

Artemadorus is right, but theres a lot more to consider.
