Restore engine treatment

I was curious if anyone has used or know anyone that has used the 'restore' engine treatment and had any luck with it. They talk it up on the commercials and their website, i was just wondering if anyone had any opinions on it.

It'll work for a little while if you have a beater that you're trying to keep on the road. That's about it though.

i was going to put it in my legacy. i had a 93 lumina z34 i put it in back in the day and it seemed to help a little bit with the get up and go and gas milage and exhaust smoke. could have just been all in my head though.

Many moons, and quite a few cars ago, I had a Dodge Daytona (my first car, leave me alone) that I put it in, didn't notice a bit of difference.

I used to put it in my 98 VW Golf some what regularly just for preventative maintainence. Car had 120xxx miles on it and was faster than my legacy :-? I liked it (I think...) But a lot of mechanics are against it because of all the liquid metal in it. Supposedly it's not good. So I use all the BG products now ( I.e. MOA, 44k etc.) I don't think that helps you at all, just my story.

We prefer seafoam around here...

Yea, except they're kind of in different categories...restore is to help engine compression by "filling" any impurities you may have in cylinder walls. Seafoam just cleans.

Unless you were stating that towards me. In which case, yes seafoam and 44k are probably pretty similar.

Yea, mostly known for being used during services at dealers, but you can pick it up at local auto stores too. It's damn good stuff.

That's their line of oil additives, look at the drop down bar on the upper right to look at their other products.

I've used many of their products (super cool coolant additive, 44k fuel additive, ISC induction system cleaner, MOA oil additive, and a hand full of others) And have been very happy with the results. I bet my VW had the cleanest, most efficient engine I've seen/driven and was pulling high 30's, low 40 miles per gallon before selling it.

I used to use Restore in my Legacy, and then I decided to stop. I saw absolutely no decrease in anything, not performance, not gas mileage, nothing.

So, in my opinion, it doesn't do anything.

I'm not a fan of additives to begin with though.

It does, but nothing you want it to do. Does it help fill in all those 'gashes' in your cylinder walls? maybe to some extent, does it make your engine like new? no...

It also plugs up your oil filter, and builds up in other areas of the engine. mostly in the oil pan and other low areas and corners.

I am also not a fan of additives...

I tried it in one of my cars and it appeared to run a little better. I've tried it in a second car with no effect, so I think the results might not be consistent.

I have no proof of the car running better other than buttdyno.

I did try it once in my BD at around 118k miles. It did seem to help somewhat, but it could have been the placebo effect. Either way the results were not great enough to make me use the product again.
