What did I just buy?

I picked up a "Fidenza lightweight flywheel" yesterday off a 2.5RS. I had him just put it right in the trunk without picking it up assuming it was the light one, which I have never seen. I was told it wasn't the 9 pound one, but an older steel one weighing less then a stock WRX one.

I can't find any information on the wheel confirming if it is a Fidenza, but it feels heavy as shit and I don't have a scale to weigh it.

Here's a few pictures. Maybe someone can confirm if it is or not. I don't think I got ripped off, but maybe it was a mis-communication.

The lightweight ones usually have holes on the outer surface.

Don't you have a bathroom scale or something? Worse comes to worse, just bring it with you to a Target or something and use one of their scales :grin:

I've seen what the new aluminum flywheels look like, they are the two piece ones with a replaceable mating surface. My wheel isn't aluminum, and definitely isn't 2 piece at the mating surface.

Looks much like stock except for the bolts on the engine side, because of that I am pretty sure it is not off a legacy gt.

You got punked, that's a stock 2.5RS flywheel. I had my wife's 01 RS apart for a clutch swap less than a month ago.

^Don't have any info besides you should have it resurfaced/machined before using it.

Agreed. That's been the plan. I just wanted to make sure that I can use it before I spend the money to have it resurfaced.

I have a 4 day time frame in May when I will do my clutch. I wanted to get a flywheel ready to be put in so that I don't have downtime for resurfacing. Past experiences have yielded roughly 2-3 days for resufacing.

Yes I know that's a long time, but with limited places to go and high demand for their services, you can put two and two togeather.

I'd still complain about getting ripped off on the lightweight deal.

Anyways, you're right about the resurfacing part, and you could always resell your GT one to someone else after you get the new one in.
