anyway.. how much power has anyone gotten out of a 2.5 and what can i do without ripping too far into it.(the guy just did headgaskets and oil gaskets and seals)
thanks
Edit:
sorry i just read my first post and i wasnt too clear
its the intake that looks wierd.. my parents have 2 99 legacy SUS's and they have the 25 in them and the intake is a different shape

You sure you got a same year replacement, or you might have gotten a later model or even an WRX/STi engine...
Edit. Sorry - just saw you have an LSi. That's a 2.2 right?

The 95 LSi was, yes.
We need more info on this EJ25...what model & year is it from? EJ25D? EJ251?

the guy said he got it on ebay and the seller said he got it from a 98 outback or forrester? he got it for his wifes 98 outback
he swapped this engine in with the intake from his wife's car and it ran fine. then he found the head gasket was blown so he fixed the old engine and put it back and this one he had spare time and parts so he did the head gasket and oil seals
it says EJ25 on the block.. he says that it ran beautifully except the gasket, ... ill post picks when i get it home tomorrow.. im driving to st cloud MN to get it

so it's the intake and not the intake MANIFOLD that is different?
As long as your intake (plastic tubes) bolt up to the intake MANIFOLD, then you're good to go.
Just swap everything over.
Though, your ECU might have fits because of the extra displacement. No idea if a 2.2L ECU will run a 2.5L engine properly.

I believe people who have done the swap have left their EJ22 ECU in with little issue, but I'd feel better with the appropriate ECU too, Roger.

The DOHC 2.5 liter NA motors have different intake manifolds than the SOHC. The intake manifolds aren't interchangable between those... The DOHC 2.5 (From a 1998 Outback, for example) should run off a 2.2 ECU. If it's an EJ251, then good luck.
Does your new EJ engine have DOHC heads or SOHC? DOHC Are much bigger than SOHC heads, and are wider at the top of the heads than the bottom (remember, they're on their sides). I've got an EJ25D and an EJ251 here at home, if you want pics.

well the guy i bought it from said the seller on ebay told him that it was out of a 98 outback.. so i assumed it would be the same as my parents 99 SUS 2.5s but the manifold is obviously a different shape.. and some parts are on different sides when the two manifolds are compared
im pretty sure its a DOHC

I'm assuming the SUS is USDM, but is the intake you got from a 1998 USDM Outback? And was it stock on that Outback?
You said you have pics, why don't you email them to me? chisan@charter.net
I have some free hosting, I'll get them up for you so other members can help out too.

ive got a 95 EJ22 in my car now.. that doesnt look like it at all.. but idk..
some of the brackets are bent and the throttle link is bent and ruined so im just tryin to figure out if it would be worth it to replace the bent pieces or not
id also like to find for sure what this engine came from
does anyone know if i can take a number from the engine anywhere and go to the dealer could they tell me what it came from?

My intake manifold has a part number stamped on it... Might want to see if you can find one.
If it's bent, as in squished, then you should set it on fire and get a new one.

ha ya. its just some brackets that are bent like the clips for spark plug wires and small stuff like that.. and the throttle connecter thing (dontknow what its called  ) id liketo use it if its a better manifold

If you have another manifold laying around, I think some, if not most, of the things should be swappable. Though, if most of it, fuel rails, injectors, sensors, and TB are all screwed, I'd ditch it and grab a new one from ebay.
