all red tails, not complete

not a complete diy but took pictures of what i did.

before with jdm tail lights

took stock tails and center garnish off
tails have like 8mm bolts
center garnish uses standard size (i used both long sockets)

started wetsanding the lights with 800 grit sandpaper. then painted the center garnish first with Tester's Transparent Candy Apple Red

finished 2-3 layers with 2 layers of clear coat. also, comparison with stock center garnish

I think if you had left the reverse lights white, it would have been a winner. Is it shiny with the clear coat on?

IMO the reverse lights look better white. Don't the have to stay white to keep the car "legal" though?

Throw the unpainted center piece in and take a pic.

I actaully bought the stuff to do this to my car last week and just haven't time. I'm planning on leaving the reverse lights white.

I want to do the same thing on my BE for the rear turn signal. The orange just seems so out of place there.

I just realised yours were clear to begin with. Are they all like that or only JDM ones?

I was thinking about doing this a year ago, but I heard in climates with extreme temperatures changes (like colorado) the spray paint will crackle and chip.

I'm glad you sprayed your stock tails and not the JDM ones lol. But do throw the extra center section with the white reverse lights.

Bold look! I agree about the reverse lights, I'll probably take you're idea and spray my standard tails the same way.

Let me explain, I think i'd like the all red better if it wasn't on a red car. I think on a Legacy of a different color it'd look pretty good. The red on red just isn't my thing I guess.

grayguy and i have been planning to do this with his car, accept by just taping of the orange and paintin it. but for the most part i think it looks alright, i like how amber looks on the right car colors tho.
