Ok, so today I picked up a set of WRX struts for an awesome price.
The struts are from an 02 wrx sedan and I own a 99OB wagon.
Whats needed to make this work and what can I expect in return in regards to ride height/comfort and safety.
Remember it's an Outback Wagon and not the Legacy.
Let me have it! I'm listening!

is it an outback legacy or outback impreza? You will probably have a saggy rear because the sedan springs aren't strong enough. This is what spdracr00 over on nasioc has said about his WRX wagon springs.

it's a Legacy Outback. I was considering using the Outbacks springs as it didn't come with springs but I had no issue with putting some in.

He's just talking about the struts though.
If you go with some Legacy wagon springs you should be fine on sagging.
You're going to have to worry about camber, the WRX struts won't give you enough negative camber, so you'll need spacers.

ok, so I will need spacers. What about top hats? Can I use the WRX struts with Legacy Springs and top hats?
Wil this lower my car or will the ride height stay the smae?

It would definitely lower your car. The outback gains height with its springs and the struts are an inch longer. I kinda figured you were getting the WRX struts because you wanted to lower it

That was my main motive behind it. Will my Legacy springs work ok?

I don't think so. I believe you need WRX springs when using WRX struts. You'll probably need WRX tophats too.

Seriously? I thought you could go with Legacy springs on Impreza struts. Maybe just not WRX struts?

aaack, the speculation is killing me
You'll get more negative camber with wrx wagon struts and about the same as stock with WRX sedan struts. The latter have longer ears, causing a loss in negative camber, but the drop causes an increase, so it pretty much should cancel out. I have no idea what spacers you guys are referring to, usually camber bolts will fix any issues if the occur.
I am fairly certain that you can use your legacy springs, as long as the fronts are the same diameter as wrx springs (I should know, but can't remember!). If they do fit, you will have to compress the heck out of them to get them on, which might cause excessive preload and bouncing, or perhaps it will lift you car (from wrx spring height) and you won't get much drop. The rear legacy springs should be the same diameters as 02-03 wrx springs. Ideally, you'd want to use wrx wagon springs. As a side note, All 93-03 impreza springs are cross-compatible.
The legacy (up to 1999) and 02-03 wrx front and rear tophats are identical. It is the front spring perches which might differ if the front legacy springs are larger in diameter.
