I'm not quite sure why, or how I wrote so much, but I did. If you don't feel like reading all of this, I highlighted the Uber-1337 Subaru parts.

So this morning I woke up, and it's snowing. No big deal (besides the fact that the snow was freaking hard to get off of the car because of how heavy it was). I left to school at about 7:10, on a normal day I would have arrived in about 15 minutes, but not today. The highway was backed up a ways and moving at about 20mph down the canyon out of the foothills (which is one of the steepest grades of interstate in the U.S.), so I ended up arriving at about 8:00. Once I got down into Golden it wasn't snowing, but pouring rain instead; which continued for most of the day until about 10:00 when it turned to sleet-esque something. At this point our principal announced that as of 11:15 all students who lived in the mountains / foothills could leave school (YES!) before the highway closed down (I guess it was snowing harder in the foothills than it had been). Unfortunately I had scheduled an appointment with my tutor at 12:30, so I had to wait for that. By the time I was done with my tutor it was 2:00 and the highway was closed , the streets in Golden were beginning to flood, and I could only image what it was like at home. As I headed up the frontage road conditions got progressively worse, and pretty soon it was a freaking blizzard and you could barely see past the windshield, and underneath the snow which covered the road was a crusty layer of slush-ice with two tire tracks in it that offered the only traction to be had. As I neared my house the roads got even worse, with more cars in the ditch and more ice under the snow, but I eventually reached the top of my mile-long dirt road; only to find that it hadn't been plowed, and that the plowing of the road in front of it had created a 3ft wall of crap in front of it. So I sort of powered it sideways in order to face my road and stepped on it. I made it through the pile and only got high centered for a second in the process. As I continued down the road I had to stop for a heard of snow covered elk who were crossing, and then came closer to my house where our neighbor had decided to line about 1/2 mile of the road with railroad ties and re-bar back in december (which cut about 2 feet off of the already small road) so I made pushed my way down the road through 3 feet of heavy, wet snow until encountered a tree which had become so weighed down with snow that it cracked at the base and fell across the road, I got out of the car and managed to roll the tree to an angle so I could drive through, and arrived home with no other problems. And my 97' Legacy 2.5 GT never got stuck or even slid off course for that matter  I freaking love this car.

Where are you in colorado? We've had rain, which, with the right steering angle throttle application can make for some sideways fun, but no snow. It's been raining for 3 days now in Fort Collins.

nice pics. I loved that car for all the years I had it too

careful in snow that deep. if you are bottomed out you can get some corrosion on some of the electrical harness lines. I had some electrical short outs and problems from drifting but that's pretty much the extent of the problems that i've ever had with that car.

Nice. I did that parking drift into a gas station parking stall (no not near the pumps) one snowy day.

I'm up on Lookout Mountain, we have been getting hammered all winter (about 15 minutes away from Golden).

Where abouts are you on Lookout Mtn. My parents live off of Grandview and I now live in downtown Golden (highway 58 and Washington Ave)? If you ever see me I'll be in a white 96 Impreza L Coupe with black windows, black turbo legacy wheels, and uh Ricer taillights aka Altezzas. My dad is sporting my other car... champagne 99 Legacy L Wagon with JDM tails, non-tinted windows, and Prodrive exhaust.

BTW, you will usually find me driving Lariet Trail on Weekend... err or even weekday nights...
