This is to those who have swapped and those that know people who have swapped.

I'm looking for what was done to what and how much did it cost?

Are you just asking about the engine, or transmission? I had a lot of stuff swapped that wasn't necessary.
At least for me, the majority of the costs is not the labor, it's the parts.

If you are willing to shop for awhile and look for deals, you can reduce the costs quite a bit.
The engine and type of swap is going to make a big difference as well.

My original swap, STI engne, plus rebuilding my Legacy transmission was around $8k I believe. I'm on a new transmission now, but that is a different story.

Then you may want to just use a search. A lot of things have been swapped and from many different donors; such is the double-edge sword of a lego car like a Subaru.

There's been JDM engine swaps, JDM tranny/engine, impreza interiors into BD's, full gauge cluster/DCCD/STI tranny/STI engine into a legacy, brakes, wrx suspensions, etc.

I swapped to the woodgrain center console for about $20. Had to take a couple screws out and pop off the shifter console.

Well if you mean just how much the parts cost, most of it is used so it is highly variable (typical USDM WRX engine can be had for as low as 1500 to 2500, STi engines ~ 3k-5k depending on what else comes with it, etc).

As for shop prices...what can I tell you? Depends a lot on who you know, where you are and how much of the work you're willing to do yourself.

I was talking to them probably a year ago about putting AWD and a 5MT in my car. I believe it was ~$1400.

Might as well put that money into the purchase of a newer car that already has a MT + AWD. No sense modding what you can buy stock.

if i were you, id look at rs25.com in the transmission classified section.. a buddy of mine is basically selling every you'd need to do a awd swap on urs from what it looks like... not to mention he might be able to help, or if not, i got another buddy that could.

WRX spring and strut swap.

Struts, KYB GR2's for '02-'03 WRX sedan (all 4 total): $280
Springs, Used, stock WRX sedan '02-'03, (all 4 total): $40
Front spring top hats, were donated, but $30 is what it would have cost me for used ones. Rear BD legacy sedan strut mounts (new) were $110 total, because my old, rusty stockers fell apart shortly after the swap.

Total: $430.

98-99 Legacy with a WRX or STi swap will have cheaper insurance than a 02+WRX or 04+ STi. I thought about this time and time. All roads for me lead back to a swapped BD. No all I have to do if fine one in good shape CHEAP!

Thats what I would love to do, but by the time I can afford to do something like that finding a BD in good shape might be impossible. I like BEs too so who knows :twisted:

I swapped springs and struts from a JDM Legacy GT-B. Cost= Parts: $600. Labor: $0 (did it myself).

I swapped bilstein struts with H&R springs. $258 on ebay $0 labor

Tails and center garnish approximately $350, $0 labor

RSRB grill. $75 ebay $25 paint $0 labor

$102 shipped- 0 labor

Shortened the shifter by 2 inches- 0 cost since I had a tap and Dye set

STI piston style Shift knob- 45$ shipped.

New Rear Brake Rotors and Pads - 60$ at advanced auto... free install by me...

Removed my muffler- free.. (it was suprisingly quiet)

added flowmaster (borrowed until sat.) free...
(oddly enough, this was louder than w/o a muffler... is that normal?)

painted my nasty looking battery tie down- free

replaced headgasket, timing belt, PS pump, AC charge... basicly rebuilt motor- 2000$


Drive the hell out it at every auto-x near me- about 30$.. lol

looking at some coilovers now, and possibly a wrx swap... :shock:

Swapped a '99 stock BD ($13900) for a Custom Turbo built '98 BD ($15500) so it really only cost me $1600 for that swap....lol

WRX tranny swap $800 with free rear diff from friend.
Stock interior to JDM V7 STI $800
turbo 22t to rebuilt turbo 22t 2K+....not sure what it will cost yet as its not done
