Well, just bought a 95 legacy with a bad timing belt. Went to drain the radiator and it only had about 1/2 gallon in it and nothing in the engine... Continued to pull apart front timing cover and found that the back part of the timing cover on the drivers side had melted to the head. Also the cam seal is completly melted. There was so much oil and gunk inside of the timing cover!! I can not beleive this car ran at all. I guess it is time for an EJ22 turbo swap. Anyone know where I can get one reasonably cheap in TX? Or someone willing to ship?

so you want to swap to an EJ22T? They're not exactly easy to find. I wonder if it'd be easier to mix and match turbo parts and NA parts and slap a turbo kit on there as opposed to swapping and having to splice wires.

Ive tried car part and found a few, will probably have to ship. I live in a small town in Texas so it will be difficult to find one close(closest is austin and they dont list a price!). I was going to put a turbo on my NA block but since it seems to be trashed I am going to try to get a 2.2 turbo block. They are about the same price so I might as well, even with the extra work. I already have an aftermarket WRX turbo header, TD04 WRX turbo, aftermarket downpipe, S-AFC, legacy turbo injectors, AEM wideband, VDO EGT gauge, SAAB 900 intercooler, and a 1G DSM BOV. So I think what I will do is use the stock ECM and intake manifold with the turbo block and use the S-AFC to run it. I am planning on getting a emanage down the road, but I think this would be a good setup to run the stock boost(I think 7psi). Plus I would then have a good engine for some increased boost!

Well, I found an EJ22T, low miles, Ive got the old 2.2 torn down today and I am about ready to pull it. Hopefully if I order the engine on monday morning I will get it the following week. I bought this car cuz I thought I could get it running quick but I guess it will take a few weeks now. I guess it will be worth it for the long run to have the stronger block. I will be upgrading to a 5spd in a few months. After that is done I will have one descent car. I think it should be able to run with WRX's. Not bad considering everything will only cost about $3.5K(including car). Plus, no one will suspect it.

Well, I got the motor pulled today. Subies are easy to pull! Anyways, that motor wasnt leaking oil, it was pissing it. I am black from shoulder to finger tip, to also include my entire head. Anyways, cant wait to get the EJ22T, gonna be sweet.

BTW does anybody need a set of dual port EJ22 heads? I will be parting out the old EJ22 except the intake manifold. Let me know!

I'd take the opportunity to degrease the engine bay... maybe powdercoat a few things or at least repaint them.

That is the first thing I am going to do. I can not stand working on something so filthy! I will probably pull all the stuff out of the engine bay and do a quick repaint too. I am also painting my intake manifold and will be cleaning painting the new engine once I get it. I am going to paint everything black(no bling here) to hide what I will have on the motor. The header and downpipe I have are polished but they will be wrapped in black and the turbo is going to get coated black as well. I was thinking about keeping the stock airbox and gutting it and running my intake through it and into the fenderwell. I am also putting in a 3" exhaust but hopefully with a muffler, resonator and cat it will be fairly quiet. I suppose the only dead giveaway will be the TMIC, not much I can do about that for now. Anyways, I think this car will make an awesome sleeper and will hopefully be reliable enough for daily driving. Will post updates as they happen.

Just received my EJ22 turbo today. Got the engine bay cleaned up this weekend(holy oil slick batman!). Took way longer to clean up my driveway than the engine bay did. I am now waiting on my emanage and cometic head gaskets. Also supposed to get my TD04(WRX) delivered tomorrow. Soon as I get em I will be putting the engine together and get this friggin thing running! BTW I will be selling a bunch of the EJ22 turbo parts I wont be needing, see my ad in the classifieds.
