Bought a short shifter from www.kartboy.com (http://www.kartboy.com) on Friday at like 4 AM, shipped Friday, received Monday (w00t for good businesses), and installed after I got home from work.

I had some difficulty getting the new shifter to pop into its new home, but I got it eventually. I also put the bolt that holds the shifter to the linkage in the opposite direction because it was more convenient, but found out that it hit something when going into first gear. After swapping that around, everything is gravy 8)

Stock shifter with my aftermarket Greddy knob:

Trim off, showing off all the dirt and ugly underneath:

Stocker out!

Stock vs. Kartboy. Can you say improvement?

Kartboy finally in, after arguing with it for like 45 minutes...

All set with trim back on. Very nice!

Well worth the money, that's for sure.

Eh, it's not a how-to, and it's photos of my Legacy. Close enough :D

this is going to end up being moved or deleted. One thread per member ride rule... ;)

Not weird, this is not a dedicated thread for your car. If you like to make one ask the moderator the layout on how to make one. I don't understand how nobody can get this.

Is it just me or is there no difference in the two except the height of the shifter stick itself? If that's the case, I have a hacksaw in the garage for mine.

No I understand the concept, I think it's just wierd to devote a section to only one thread per member. Nothing wrong with that, really, just my opinion. In my history with forums the photo section has been the photo section, regardless. Keeps the other areas a bit cleaner usually. But that's fine. Not my forum to run.

And Plays_with_Toys: the throw of the shift is also significantly shorter, and the shifter has a much tighter feel. So the height is not the only difference.

Here's mine: https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2007/04/HPIM1091-1.jpg

to be honest, the lever is a little on the short side to my liking. I don't like the long reach from steering wheel to knob - especially when I'm going sideways in the dirt during rallycross.

To bring this back to a tech thread,

BE cars use the same shift lever as the GD WRX's and above. NOT like the levers on the GC Imprezas and probably BD's as well. The difference is the width of the pivot that the lever get's bolted into the fork. It's wider on the later cars.

You can use the older style levers with a couple of washers (which is what I did when I had a PDM shortshifter for a GC before the kartboy).

Yick, that pic reminds me why I painted my dash. Haha. Your shorty looks slick - I like the shift boot! That's one thing I wanna change about mine someday. The boot I have has a thread on the top that attached to an aftermarket shift knob the previous owner had installed. It was ugly and huge. Now the top thread part rattles on the shifter unless I hold it (which I do often enough anyway, but the times I don't are quite noticable). Gotta fix that someday.
