Relocating the HVAC controls

The HVAC controls above the cup holder, look like they are DIN sized.

Is it possible to move it to the double din location below the cup holders?

I'm considering a NAV unit, or a screen for a carputer, and I don't like the low location of the double din spot. I thought if I could move the HVAC below, I could put a folding screen above the cup holders.

The only negative is, depending on how far the screen comes out, it could interfere with the cup holders.

IIRC the HVAC is slightly smaller than a DIN pocket so yes, it will fit.

Yeah you can. Mine is done like that. Just relocate the wires and cable to go down there.

Is it exact DIN size or a little smaller?

its a tad bit bigger then the plastic cover piece so you have to trim it out a little

Funny, I've looked at your car a few times and just glossed over your gauges.

I'll definately be moving the controls. I have to find a suitable folding screen first.

What size gauges are those? I was looking at my car last night, and I think that's how I want to mount my Oil Pressure are Water temp gauges for my swap. Then the Boost gauge in the center of the column.

Also, if the HVAC is slightly bigger, how did you get it inbetween the Radio brackets? or did you mod/ build your own?

I think they are 2.25 but not sure.

The brackets are modified. You still screw them into the radio but then pressure holds the Hvac control I believe. I havent been in there for some time to really remember.

So is it possible to put the HVAC stuff where the deck goes and then mount your stereo in the HVAC location? With a AT its kinda hard to get to the stereo controls with the car in park. Also can't see the display with the cup holder open.
