It was a 98 two door in black, coming towards me on the same road. I thought something was a little odd about it and as it passed by me I realized it was wearing a Legacy GT hood. Let me just tell you how out of place the hood scoop was. I was going too fast to know if he retrofitted just the scoop or the hood itself, because the car was actually painted one color, but wow, civic's just aren't ripe for hoodscoops.

It seems like it would be too wide...

Wiscon_Mark

Yeah, the civic hood is way way smaller than a Legacy hood.

You sure it was a Subaru scoop? I mean, it could've been gotten from something else.

He could have done what a lot of VW guys do...cut and paste. I think it doesn't look to bad on some cars...

I had a pic on my computer of a civic with a Legacy hood scoop. It looked good. Since then my computer crashed but I have that pic somewhere and I'll snap a pic of it.

Go to honda-tech.com and check out their rides. Most of them arent ricers. Ricers were so back then. These days they all drive bling cars JDM parts all the way spending too much money. Check out cars from Cali and westcoast in general. They all have Volks...Rotas are laughed at. Their performance mods are ridiculous. Even if they dont look good, they are likely to beat a stock evo and sti's no problem with fully built b18, b20, and of course stock k20a's and if they go hondata kpro, they can take on modded evos and sti's.

Oh I agree, for the most part the rice crowd is out, but you still get examples. I'm waiting to get my camera's pics uploaded, but me and a couple friends went and terrorized the streets, and one of the cars we came across was a 92 accord with 3 "low rider" tires and one spare tire (on the front of course) with a rice muffler. Hilarious. And he actually tried to race me. Which is even funnier.

Most of the ricers around here are DSMs with really loud atmospheric BOVs, FMICs, a super loud farty exhaust, and a bodykit. The car could be fast, who knows.

I know I don't care because they're polluting my sense of hearing, sight, and taste.

Yea, here in upstate NY, a lot of Honda modders are 2 fast 2 furious. The guys that autocross have well-built, good looking machines, but any boyracer with a fart can thinks he's Micheal Schumacher(sp?).

I dont know what ur talking about but thats not a ricer, a nice dsm with all that is still pretty fast and takes some work and money to put into. My friends dsm withe few upgrades smokes a lot of cars around here. He has an 95 Eclipse GST, tien susp., 99 front bumper, side skirts and rear, full exhaust, intake and a few other things and also upgrading turbo. I DONT CONSIDER HIS CAR A RICER AND HIS CAR WOULD OWN MINE NO PROBLEM.

Not all DSMs... But there are plenty of them. Guy I bought my Leggy from (actually his GF's fathers car) had a first gen eclipse with a body kit held on with decking screws :-/. Got to talking with him, his plans for the car were replacing blown HG with a kit he got off fleabay, a BOV from ebay, and a boost controller.... No mention of removing or fixing busted unpainted body kit :smt027 :smt027 :smt027

But there are still plenty of us with fast DSMs that keep it clean.

Reason

Just because a car is"fast" doesn't mean it can't be consider "rice". It all depends on how the car was built. Theres lot's of guys here with slow, but nicely put together cars, You wouldn't call rice. Your logic behind this subject shows your ricer mentality, Paul Walker would be proud.

Yea Paul would be proud. Also this is funny so i can mention this, and before i say it, no this is not what go ME into cars.....BUT if it wasn't for that stupid movie there might still not be a big scene of imports and "RICING" going on in America. A lot of people got into cars from seeing this movie and now have very nice built cars. This movie showed STUPID people about the import scene and boosted probably a lot of sales for companies and making the racing scene as big as it is today. Yes i didn't state much about my friends car and i wasnt saying that just cuz his car is fast doesnt mean its not a ricer. He has quality parts/labor jobs put into his car and does by ANYTHING OFF EBAY. He also doesnt have a body kit held on by decking screws and not painted and yes his car is CLEAN. I agree reason i see a lot of nice cars and nicely done here that are not full oh HP, but i wasnt saying slow cars are ricers. Why is everyone hear such on some defensive shit. I didn't know i was talking crap. Just my input

Maybe you're missing the part where they're creating tons of noise pollution. They just create noise for the sake of it. eBay mufflers are not really a "performance part" -- they create noise. Noise is a byproduct of performance, not the other way around. Unpainted bodykits are rice...basically cheaping out on the car to make it look fast, or sound fast, and not doing it right is rice.

I'm not saying all DSMs are rice. Don't put words in my mouth. I'm saying the primary ricer car around here is the Eclipse/Talon.

I think that is what I don't like.

Look Honda exhausts are some of the most effective from the factory. Going to an aftermarket exhaust often doesn't net most Honda's any more power.

Take my 2000 Civic SI. I could have spent $1000 on an exhaust, and maybe netted 3 or 4 hp? Why bother?

And what do you call some of us slapping on fancy Stainless STI/wrx parts or aftermarket bits... Noise polution + 3 hp for ~1000$

Atleast they usually look like they belong there tho...

I've listened to my STi exhaust from outside the car...it's not all that loud. Certainly not waking up the neighbors when I get home late at night.

But you know why I got it? Because my old system rusted out, and I needed and inexpensive Stainless steel exhaust (that would last) that wasn't more than a couple years old. This was a good solution.

EL headers typically quiet down NA subies, though, right?

So I'm a ricer then? Cos I have a 2.25" midpipe mated to an STi axleback? Oooh, I have gold wheels too, but they're only 16x7" and I have blue door cards to match my STi seats...

I painted my belt cover too, and I have strut braces fore & aft?

But no aftermarket header....

The whole "ricer" thing is ridiculous... how many muscle car guys have/had half-done projects that they still drove? Same thing as kids and people like us today. No-one buys every single part at the same time and slaps it on...

So everyone's ricerriffic at some point...

I meant running with no exhaust at all...

I've seen hondas with aftermarket exhausts that were quiet, and well done. I've seen Tahos with flowmasters that sound like they're about to rupture a testicle from the testosterone, too. I also saw a Civic with 16" Enki wheels, and you know what, it looked really, really good like that. It wasn't overdone. I've also seen some subie ricers, unfortunately... And domestics get wheatburnered/cornburnered here more than most imports get riceburnered.

So no, having aftermarket anything on a car doesn't make it rice. Putting 37" wheels on a civic that's blowing smoke through a 9' muffler tip, that's rice.

Rice is the early nineties accords with euro tailights, massive wing, and K&N stickers all over, still on stock wheels. I see this crap all the time.

why are you guys knocking on ebay in general? i've bought EVERY performance part except for the tubing on my exhaust(yes, my muffler was from ebay)
all i can say is, i spent half what other idiots did going to a shop or ordering from, say Cobb or Xcceleration.com (the two most expencive i can think of)

ebay is a GREAT place for people with half of a brain that know what they are looking for and are capable of doing the research necessary to guarantee that the part they are ordering in genuine and of quality manufacturing.

my .02 on the whole if you bought your parts from ebay then you're a ricer deal.

i knock ebay only because it allows people to sell things like this..
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Subaru-W ... 2732QQrdZ1 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Subaru-WRX-STI-Legacy-Stainless-Fender-Bolts-JDM_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ42611QQihZ011QQitemZ320120592732QQrdZ1)

and put them on their car. Some of these "performance things" are just garbage/gimmicks however some people unfortunatly fall for them and put them on their car and believe their making a difference to their ride. I believe this site unlike nasioc, embraces more ebay things then anywhere else (IE: Ebay headers, Ebay Intake etc etc.). if your buying things from ebay to better your car's peformance or styling thats actually going to make a difference, then thats one thing. But if your just buying things to make your car perform and look like this...

well, i have to admit something. I used to have this shitty as hell '87 honda accord sedan. And i put a carbon fiber wraped fart buzzer on it. I did it for three reasons.

1. A joke
2. The A/C drained so much power from the car that it would die at stoplights.
3. If i ever had to, I could rebuild it.

Not saying the muffler added tons of power. The pipes are probably what made the difference. The pipes that were on there had war bends in them from my driving it like shit because i hated it. And still, the mother F@cker wouldnt die. SO with new pipes and a straight through muffler, it finally put out 140hp @4300 and 104ft/lbs at 3600. yay, it matched what HP my eclipse put out stock.

oh and afterwards, it wouldn't die at lights anymore when the compressor kicked in. Im glad i only spent $50 on the exhaust. because i really hated it. the sad part is i could notice a hp difference with and without the silencer. I admit i had the silencer in most of the time because i couldn't stand the sound. But when i went on long distance trips, i would take it out so i couldn't fall asleep. If your wondering what it sounded like, It sounded like a mix between a 60s VX bug, (the way the intake sounded)and a weed wacker. It was a LXi model so it had fuel injection.

Still, if i HAD to get another one (as in forced against my will and held at gun point), i would get a LX hatchback 87 honda accord. Reason being is because with the amount of HELL i put that engine through, it earned my respect. The LX model because it had dual two barrel carbs, so yeah, i could put on dual weber carbs and a stronger clutch
