My 1998 LOB has 107,XXX miles on it and since I'm going to be replacing/ upgrading the front brakes I figured I might as well do the wheel bearings since someting is chirping up there. My question is, looking at the FSM, it says I need a puller to get all the goodies off to access the wheel bearings. Is this true??? I've never played with a FWD/ AWD so I'm just asking before I tear into this and end up over my head. Any help and tips would be greatly appreciated.

I would check to see what the chirping is...if it's time for a brake job, that very well could be the culprit. IIRC, the rears are the ones that normally go first, but maybe not.
Either way, replacing the wheel bearings is a pretty in depth, all day job. If you don't have a press or the correct tools to press the old bearing out and the new bearing in, you'll also need a second vehicle to take you to a shop where it can be done. They usually charge anywhere from $10-30 around here. Search on Nasioc, as I think there's a couple detailed posts on how to do this on an Impreza...it's pretty much the same for the Legacy.
