i know they are the job-lot or dollar general of auto parts, hell i worked there and i know this, but don't buy the fuel pumps.
pump #2 just ate shit.
so it sits in my driveway till i can figure out how to bone ADV and buy an OE pump. hopefully i will accomplish at least boning ADV tomorrow. it's not the job that's hard, it's a half hour job.
OE parts FTW
that is all.
the brand is "master" by the way. see angry post below for other products to avoid.

Edited by Huffer for correct brand name

Walboro?
Unless he's getting engine management, it's completely overkill, and probably a bad idea.
Unless they make OE pumps rather than the 255lph ones?

Actually, never buy fuel pumps, starters, alternators, or anything similar from Advance, unless you're in a jam and don't have any other choice. (Like broke down in the middle of a road trip and they're the only place available) Also avoid their Xact or whatever it is plug wires. It's all junk.

Advanced is the only place I shop. Never used high end parts from them, but they have the most pride in their shops and knowledgeable people. Atleast around here.

umm...IIRC, there's plenty of people running them without engine management. Maybe I'm wrong, but I could swear that there's people on RS25 and NASIOC doing it.
Edit: I did some quick research and apparently I had been misunderstanding. The Walboro is overkill for a stock motor...more reason to buy one and build a turbo kit. Sorry, Mark.

who changed my title?!
you twat, i worked there, i have the right to tell people what to not buy, and that's a great example! don't gimme this "bad experience" PC bull crap. the pumps suck! i've returned tons of them!
god forbid someone tries to give real help on the forum instead of regurgitating the bull shit they read elsewhere!
want more of a list? ok, here, DO NOT BUY:
xact wires, and careful with autolite professionals.
for the love of god, run from any bosch plug they have.
do not buy adv brand oil, it makes havoline look glorious.
CV axles... the newer ones made in china suck ass too.
bosch wiper blades, they are no better than tricos.
wearever silver brake pads, they are friggin garbage. golds ok, bendix pretty good
avoid the starters and alternators... i've returned so many... and i bench tested them to see that they were really bad. i f'ing know these things man.
i could go on, but i'm bored with this for now.
don't change my shit.

Updated title to clarify oberdoob's position on Advanced Auto supplies.
If you don't want your thread title edited, make it CLEAR so people don't have to rely on the less than perfect search engine.
You obviously have an issue with a particular brand, so MAKE IT CLEAR.
I'm not apologizing for doing my job.

ummmm... his original title said "don't buy advance auto fuel pumps"... Until his recent list, that was a perfectly relevant title.

Sorry Roger, I'm going to have to agree - you do overmod sometimes.
I'm glad that you're here and doing your job though, don't get me wrong.

This is a technical section. That's all I'm going to say.
BTW - if you think I over mod, would you mind telling me how?
Feel free to PM.

No, it didn't - that's what I edited it to say, the first time it was edited.
The original thread title was something that wouldn't have shown up in a search because it was like "adv auto fuel pumps" - unless you know that Adv stood for something, you'd have had no idea about thread content.

Back at the topic on hand.
Advance auto does sell felpro gaskets. And as we all know felpro is FTW.

We do? I've never heard of them.

felpro gaskets are awesome. Everytime I've read about which gaskets to get for different applications they are the name that comes up.

Pst...Roger's on a power trip.
Just kidding...love ya buddy!
I have to agree that the title needed changed, as I had no idea what adv stood for until I opened the thread. As far as I see, Roger's only trying to make the technical section more user friendly...this thread isn't very technical anyways.

USER friendly is the key word. Roger is doing what he should be doing. I'm not going to get into this here. Stay on topic from here on in. I will lock this thread if we have any more problems.

Oh and Felpro is good stuff. As far as I know thats what all the parts stores around here sells. I have a Felpro in the neon.

IMHO anyone running a turbo moder should be running OEM gaskets only. Boost + value aftermaket gaskets lead to oil leaks at the least, and blown headgaskets at the worst.
Cometic, HK$, Greedy gaskets do not even fit in the same planet as these.
