View Full Version : Titanium tipped (Blue tip) mufflers?

What is the deal with the blue tip? just cosmetic i take it? i was looking at some Turbo XS systems and they have the blue tip. was just curious if there was anything other then cosmetic about this.

I would doubt there is much more than a cosmetic choice for getting blue tipped exhausts, although to be honest, I don't know whether or not you can get those on any kind of metal, or only on certain kinds. (This may be an indicator of the metal being used, and therefore, how heavy or light you may be after installing the exhaust.)

Personally, I've liked the way they look, at least on paper. (I think the blue tips are either called burnt tips or anodized.)

If the tip wasn't so cheap looking, the blue would do something for me.

I always thought it was to give that performance look. I know motorcycle exhausts will blue through the chrome from heat. So I always thought it made the car look high performance because the exhaust was blue'ing the tip from the heat. I don't know if exhausts do this normally on the race cars, but that'd be my guess.

Don't know about chrome, but all of my polished stainless exhaust pieces end up a nice shade bronze.

The blue tip adds about 5hp, if you get the multi colored joint then maybe around 8hp. I get two of them for more powah!

FYI when u get titanium you cant weld. In addition, titanium muffler will be much louder and higher pitched than SS muffler.

Stainless and Titanium especially will change color when subjected to heat...how much heat (and what's in the gases inside the piping) well determine how much and what color.
