I think you all have seen it, but I just joined. There have been a few changes in that last few months. My pipe set is on its third and final revision w/ a TiAL 44mm wastegate. Also added an Aeromotive FPR. I'm waiting on a 5 bar map sensor so I can crank it to 23-24psi.

Not many but some, we love them all the same!

StatGSR

i guess i can give a little update since i know he doesnt frequent here. He has stripped down the old car (seen here) and has found a new shell down south some where that he is getting shipped up so that he can make the transplant into that. he is still sticking to a first gen and it should be much more bad ass than this one once its done, and much cleaner as well.

Dan's car is what got me into subaru. I was mildly interested it them, then he happened to build this car in my buddies garage, and once I hung around him/his build, I knew I had to have one! Keep up the good work!

OK guys. Kyle (statgsr) told me to get my ass back over here. I took a little bit of a break from forums for a while. We all get burnt out at some point.

Anyways, there was a little shake-up in my world in August. I was out re-tuning for the Deatchwerks 900cc injectors I installed the night before, and a woman in an '08 Camry decided to make an illegal U-turn into the side of my car when I was doing 60mph. If iwouldn't have swerved, I would have hit her drivers door at 60, and that would have been messy, aside from most of my goodies being trashed.

Before that, I had finally put the new fenders on that had been hanging from the garage wall for six months, and sprayed the silver stuff black. It looked almost presentable for about three months.

So....bear with me. I'll be pasting stuff together because I'd rather not retype everything 5 times, lol

Opera Tuning is a shop in Japan that uses factory sheetmetal over the top of existing sheetmetal to reinforce the car. I'll be doing this in some key areas since the old Legacy is damn near a wet noodle by todays standards of chassis rigidity. You can see what I removed hear. I think there was almost 30 spotwelds on each one...

I did this Christmas night. I had to retreat to the garage after six hours of family. :smt013

I did the welding on on the intake a few weeks ago at Matt's place. It is pretty ugly, as I had never welded on cast aluminum before. If I would have known at the time, I would have messed with the balance control to get better penetration. Oh well.

I took delivery on Sunday (1-25). I didn't have time to go do a burnout, plus with the clicking axle and lack of plates, I was less inclined anyways. Maybe next weekend.

It ended up being cleaner than I expected. The car is 99.9% rust free. All the normal nasty spots are all solid metal, and the little spots of surface rust is also solid by how it sounds when I tap on it. The front end has never been repaired beyond a bumper cover and a little spray in the front, as none of the core support or any sheetmetal under the hood or along the frame rails has been eff'd with. Now, about that color.......

Not bad for $840 shipped

I can't remember what the exact color is, something along the lines of pewter metallic, or something like that. I'll be painting it with Forest Pearl, the color of my wrecked car. It was only sprayed in '93.

Finally, some progress. After working on everyone else's toilet, I get to work on my own car(s). Got the wrecked green car out of the garage and the newish car in. The Kansas car is like working on a new car. Every bolt comes out like it is coated in butter. I love it.

I started working on the front core support where I found that the lower core support is taller than turbo cars. Weird. :dunno: Oh well, it makes a little more work out of it.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/03/day41-1.jpg

Therefore it all needed to be cut apart so I can modify it. Also, I started my jog in the center support. It might still need to come up a hair. Everything will be boxed-in and reinforced to be as strong, if not stronger than the original.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/03/day42-1.jpg

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2009/03/day43-1.jpg

Why am I going through all of this? I want to fit a decent sized intercooler in there and maintain some semblance of a bumper beam, which is also being modified extensively.

Old in front of new

That is the tentative IC mounting, ish. I need to weld brackets to the bottom of the IC, and some mounting brackets to the bottom of the core support. I had to buzz off the center support so I can move it up a RCH. I'm not close to done yet with this part...

It all will definitely be painted before final assembly. A catalyzed acid primer on the bare metal, and we're considering possibly using a base-clear on it, because we can. In some sort of metallic black for engine bay and the front end.

Did some test fitting. The bumper cover fits great. Ran into a little issue with the headlight though. I'll most likely cut them like I did with that junk headlight, and reseal them up with windsheild urethane.

Yeah it'll come out. I'll have to take the bumper beam off to get it out, but it will be a nuts and bolts affair. The intercooler isn't mounted yet as I wanted to make sure everything else fit before I made some mounting brackets for it.
