it's a creature all of it's own.

why the hell would you want to do it, other than to be different?

it's a mediocre engine that's not even OBDII. when you could spend the same money on a WRX swap or a hybrid STi swap and have a reliable 227-300 hp, why do the old eg33?

last time i checked the eg33 doesn't fit without relocating the radiator
you could do an ez30 swap
i'm pretty sure they fit and put out similar numbers (if not more)

This has been discussed in the Nasioc Legacy forum. I don't think the engine will fit.

Both absolutely right. The EG33 is not the same dimensions as the EJ series engines, it is 6 inches longer, which means if you drop it in a Legacy, Impreza, or Forester, you don't have room towards the front without removing the radiator.

The EZ30 made its first appearance in a Legacy, so it is designed to fit the same as an EJ engine is. It's also lighter than the EG33 and doesn't throw the weight balance off by sitting farther forward. It puts out similar numbers to the EG33, but the 3.3L was more torquey, and some claim rather underrated, because it sure made the fatass SVX move like a bat out of hell. Still, with the modification required, and the reliability issues the EG33 had, it's really not worth it to consider any other H6 swap than the EZ30.

Not to mention there is practically NO aftermarket support for the EG33. I have had an impossible time trying to do anything to my SVX... Everything you want is either very limited and costs major $$$$ or is custom and costs $$$$$$$$$$$$. You would be much better off with an Ej20G or Ej22T, you could make more power for less than the EG33 would cost to soup up for sure!

Yes, you'd have to fabricate a lot of stuff. But if you wanted to build up the internals, at least it has the same bore & stroke as the EJ22.
