This was my 1995 Subaru Legacy L sedan, 5 speed, all wheel drive. Mica Ruby Pearl. I purchased it from the second owner in April of 2006 w/ 153K. At the time it was completely stock. I sold the car back in 2010 with around 215,00 miles. I loved this car immensely & still regret selling it. All of the mods were completed under my ownership.

My old thread title was definetely acceptable. "My 1995 Subaru Legacy Sedan "L Tuned"". Was it just because it didn't say my user name Peugoby in the thread title? That is really, really weak. I also used to have 145 posts now down to under 130. And the Doob gave me no warning about my thread title. I'm definetely confused.

There were multiple warnings left for the past month and a half. We can't send a email to every person. Thats why there are rules about each section and should be read and followed. If theres a problem pm me your questions. Missing posts are due to all the deleted threads. You will notice posts disappear in your post count. Useless threads get deleted every day here.

I'm going to side with the mods on this one too. There's been an announcement posted at the top of the subforum for a little while, so to me, that is your warning.
As Shane stated, worthless threads (not saying your thread was worthless) get deleted here everyday. Jeremy, the site owner, is paying for the bandwidth and such here out of his own pocket with not a lot of help from the members. If it serves no purpose, he shouldn't be paying for it.
And who cares about post count anyways? Just whore it up like Mark and you'll be on your way to riches in no time.
Back on topic, once again, nice car. I'm loving the color and the trim...makes it look really sharp. Short shifter though?

One of the cleanest and nicest looking Legacies I've seen on here. Your car looks VERY nicely executed. If you really are going to be popping in a WRX engine into your car then I'd say you're about ready for sleeper status.
Fantastic paint job, and the WRX rims really look great with the suttle drop. I personally am going to be keeping my bd on stock ride height (winters around here can be really sucky), but your car looks great.
(By the way, I dare you to put the gt body kit on your car without the rear wing and post pics up. I'd be interested to see how your car looks that way.)
Keep up the stellar work!

Come on, join in man! Complement the dude's ride!
Personally I really like how the drop actually works very nicely with the stock wrx rims. (Has anyone color matched wrx rims to their car's paint job yet?) Do you have any ground clearance issues with your lowered car?
Oh and btw, is that red the only red car color out there? Because I see other legacies that have a darker red paint job. Were there two shades of red available for that chassis? (Just curious.)

It's not whoring if you're contributing.
If it was whoring it would be something like...
Man I wish I could have an engine swap. But I have no idea how to do it. Maybe somebody will help me out. It would be nice to have a swap..
That. When we're all looking at xcntrk's dyno numbers.

Like the new wheels - they are going to be reasonably rare, being Advan wheels, and the 16x7 ET48 means they're very likely to fit a 4pot upgrade on brakes.
They look good! Bit of touch up paint and you could get away without having them touched up.

LOL well the '02-'05 (I think) WRX brakes are a heck of a lot bigger than my '95 L's. I also have rear drums  . What I meant is it's a big brake upgrade for me.
I am just going to be using the OEM calipers and rotors. I'd love to do the '06+ 4-pots but I know they wont clear my winter rims, and they are quite spendy. I think the 2 - pots will be a lot stronger than what is on there right now, and probably the best bang for my buck.

Ahh... I used to have rear drums on my Impreza wagon, then I converted the hubs and brakes to discs. Not cheap. But totally worth it in terms of brake bias.
I used v4 STi brakes, so same as the newer ones, but with older piston design.

Remember, if you have really big front brakes, and really small/sucky rear brakes, you're going to have pretty bad brake bias and may only make braking worse. I'd upgrade the rears at the same time.

Good call Mark. I do plan on upgrading my rear brake set-up to disc at the same time. I want to just get everything (front & rear) off a WRX. An H6 3.0 rear set-up would be nice too. It would be bad news if I only upgraded my front brakes b/c I have no ABS in my Legacy. I don't want to be locking up my front tires, even in extreme conditions.
Can ABS be added to a non-ABS Subaru? I would imagine it would be a lot of work with the sensors and wiring it through your ECU and TCM.
Thanks again for the insight.

I have not updated my members ride thread in a very long time but I have a lot of new parts! The mod list in the first post is current. Someone backed into my car and damaged the passenger front door & fender. Some of you might remember the damage that went on the cruise. I got the damage fixed through insurance @ J&M and it turned out beautiful. They re-clear coated my hood as well so no more rock chips! It looks truly gorgeous. I'll have to post up some pics soon of the new paint.
I got a new set of Pirelli PNeroZero's in August. Awesome tires so far. Tirerack FTW

I got my JDM Kouki bumper finally painted to match. I've decided to wait to put it on until next spring as I don't want to damage the $565 paint job I got!

The boot is the same size as it would be from the factory. You can order shorter or smaller boots through them for the same price. I personally like the way it looks right now. The perfect amount of booty
are you going to hook up the antenna?
Definitely. I hooked it up and tested it to make sure it still works. It works flawlessly so I'm excited! Now I just need to save up for those Kouki fogs & grill. I can't decide if I want the regular red L7 grill or paint an RFRB grill to match.

The MOMO knob just twists or screws on and off like the stock one. The rubber grommet at the top of the boot (closest to the the shift knob) I'm pretty sure I re-used from the old shift boot. Your talking about the white plastic piece that is closest to the knob correct? Redlinegoods gives great instructions on replacement. It maybe took me twenty or thirty minutes all said and done.

i kinda hate to say this, but it distresses me that you're switching to the JDM kouki front. seeing all the pics of your zenki front is what made me want to pick up another 2nd gen and go with the zenki front end, kind of as a compliment to my other legacy (which now rocks the JDM kouki front). it's also kind of rare to see a 2nd gen that still has the zenki front end, it seems that everyone just wants to go with the JDM front, GT bumper, or Outback bumper. granted, i can understand why most people would do that, since that's what my white car went through. still, it's kinda sad to see one of the few zenki fronts on this site crossing over.
but either way, your car is still going to look good, so i guess it doesn't matter in the end.

Hey man I do appreciate the constructive criticism. I really like both front ends to be honest.
The zenki front end is going to be used during the winter months. That JDM grill is kind of messed up (chrome flaking) so I'm going to repaint it all black (except for the L7 logo). The fogs are going to get some super yellow bulbs along with yellow tint or "overlay". I'm just going to switch it out every winter so my new bumper can stay fresh.
that one legacy
11-06-2008, 08:57 PM
i did that for a while when i was still running the GT bumper on my white car. only reason i stopped was it became too much of a hassle to store the spare bumper when i wasn't using it. but that way you do get both looks, so it just depends on what you feel like.
i wouldn't do yellow bulbs and an overlay together with the fogs though, that'll just decrease the output of the lights. doing just the overlay should be fine (and cheaper!).

The drum to disc is a tough conversion... if you don't have the right tools. I didn't, I had a Subaru race shop do the conversion on my Impreza L wagon and it was awesome. Pedal feel and overall braking power went up. I did fit some really nice WRX brakes on too, only 2002 model though. :)

If you ever think about selling the lip and the fogs when you swap I'd really like to buy them. My bumper is already cut out and ready for the fogs lol.
You have a very clean looking car. It's JDM-ness really sets it off! :smt023

Ya it'll be swapped out this Spring. I keep toying with the idea of ordering the Greddy TRUST front lip for the kouki bumper. Navi, sorry I'm keeping this bumper & fog setup for the winter. I'm taking the lip off the L bumper, painting it black and installing it on my Sisters wagon along with the pictured JDM grill. I have the correct kouki fogs & grill for the new bumper just waiting for all the rocks, road debris and dirt to be off the road.
I've been toying with selling the car though. I want an S5 ('90-'91) Turbo RX-7. If I don't get that I'm going to get any second gen RX-7 plus a Honda CBR 600 F4i for good weather. Anyone want to make me an offer?

Update: Traded my WRX wheels for these UK17's / JDM Legacy wheels. 17x7 et55. One of the wheels needs to be refinished. Gold or not? - that is the question
They have 225/45 Pirelli PZero Nero M+S on them that have a little tread left. I'm going to be ordering 225/45 Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R's off Tirerack.com. They're on closeout for only $104 a piece - too good a price to pass up.
The bumper will go on sometime before the end of this month. I just received a minty set of JDM kouki fogs from ANDIVIC who I have purchased all of my JDM parts from. A huge :smt023 for Andy, he is bar none this sites best resource for any JDM part.
I also found a non dented rear passenger side door all the way out in Hood River. After doing a clay bar, paint cleaner, polish and carnuaba wax it turns out its a different shade. I'm going to get it blended here pretty soon or get a PDR master to fix my other door. I just cant win.

Toby - that looks amazing! Please paint them gold, it would look killer on your car. Reason can suck it
I was set on getting UK17's for my BE about two weeks ago, (and even considered the gold route as well) but the fact that they're only 17x7 ET55 turned me away. I want to run at least a 235 tire and 7 inches just wouldn't cut it. A 225 is plenty for a BD though, so it'll be perfect for your car.
I've enjoyed looking at this car ever since I joined the site. What you've brought the car from when you first got it and what it is now, it's just amazing. You give us 'L' owners a good name

Tirerack ended their deal early on the RE-01R's I wanted :-(
The other cheap good tires they have on sale are Dunlop Direzza DZ101's for $94 a piece. I think this is what I'm going to end up going with.
Look for some big changes coming soon to my wagon. GT front springs (instead of GT-B) the zenki JDM lip and grill, and of course my Advan's. Its going to be hot.
Here is the kouki bumper everyone has been waiting to see. My friend (BL2.5GT) made me a beautiful custom wiring harness for my fog lights. It took a while to do right. He also wired in my JDM sidemarkers to blink with the turn signals. The motor on the parking poll works, but its going to take a couple hours another day to set up. I need to make a custom bracket for the motor, assembly and wiring harness to sit on.
I'm extremely happy with the results. The fit, finish and color match is all perfect. I'm ordering a kouki grill from Andivic sooner than later, and also some Hella Supertones to sit behind the new grill. I also installed front and rear polished aluminum STi lisense plate frames. I personally think they're the hotness. I also installed my Whiteline front differential mount bushings. At first I couldn't really tell any difference. Speed bumps and pot holes are where these really shine. The rebound feels much better.

The reason I wouldn't paint them is because my door handles are still black and the side moldings along the doors are also black. I think it could set off a nice contrast. Another reason not to paint is that I'm sure they are expensive as all hell to get professionally done and match the rest of the car.

Well I almost purchased an '08 Mazda MX-5 Miata sport today. Dark grey, 5 speed, black interior. It was advertised @ $8,000 off MSRP making it $14,305. That's 36% off the original asking price and almost $6,000 below invoice. It came down to some stupid stipulation that the car wasn't technically a "new" car as they had registered it back in September & they couldn't warrant the price that is advertised in the paper and online because it wasn't technically "new" although it only had 26 miles. My Dad & I walked out and the Guy said he'd call tomorrow. He couldn't beat the $16,305 internet price. We'll see tomorrow (Huffer please don't tell me about picking up depreciating assets in this economy; we've put some consideration into it  :smt020 )
Here is a pic I took on Friday of my Legacy just north of Arcata, CA. The northern California coast is beautiful and hwy101 is a blast to drive! My Legacy averaged just over 29mpg and drove almost 1300 miles last week. Portland to Seattle, then south to Arcata.
http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/8011/dscn2584.jpg
What are you doing down here in NorCal Toby? You're only 5 hours out from me actually - meet me in Redding!
Seriously though, my mother grew up in Arcata. Beautiful place to live and 101 is one of the funnest highways to drive on. Haven't been able to drive it with the Subaru yet but it was still a blast in my Honda.
Good luck w/ the Miata. Sounds like a good deal.

1) Oh my god sexy.
2) Say no to the aerospats. Over priced and honestly, they don't even look like they were designed to fit the car. They are bulgy and then just end. I think it'd be a disservice to put them on when you've got the nice front lip and color matched skirts creating a clean line along the bottom.
3) If they listed a price, the law is the must sell it to you for that price or it is considered bait and switch. It's how my dad bought his Audi S8 for $12,000 under blue book after an internet price listing mistake :smt023
4) I'm coming out to Portland the weekend of May 1-3rd. Where abouts are you? I'll be in the Beaverton area at the Tektronix campus competing at the ASME Human Powered Vehicle Challenge that PSU is hosting.

Hehe, I'm going to steal some ideas from you..specially the JDM folding mirrors, grill, momo steering wheel, headlights and a feww more JDM oddities and such~ (I have a friend stuck in tokyo so hehe it should be soon).
I'm also planning on doing a rear wiper conversion (use the stalk from a wagon, replace rear windshield with a JDM wiper one..) only 300$ for the motor + rear windshield and its all PnP. Need it for florida weather (hurriances and flash thunderstorms)
Question though: do the JDM mirrors have a different viewing angle that makes it look hard to see whats behind you? Alot of people postings I've read said this..
Also: How did you get a foglight in a foglight down there?
And that parking antenna on the bumper (if thats what it really is) what exactly is it?

Thanks Reuben!
kirbyy your car looks good. Ruby mica pearl is definitely the best color for the 2nd gen (besides silver)! You should paint the front, side and rear skirts to match rest of the body. I have two different front bumpers. The one that is on yours is actually the exact same bumper as the early '94-'96 JDM zenki (first or early) Legacy bumper. I have this bumper as well but I also have a '96-'98 JDM kouki (last or later) bumper that I use during the summer months. It is a completely different shape than the other bumper. Just look over all my pictures.
The parking poll retracts and has a light at the top it. It is used as a marker to help indicate where the very tip or edge of your car is to help with tight parking. Its an unnecessary factory bling option but I personally think it looks cool and is very unique.
The mirrors are at different angles but I have no problems with them. They are just fine and allow enough adjustment that I personally don't even notice. You can always swap the glass with your factory US mirrors as long as they are the manual folding style.
The legacy has been a lot of work but I'm overall pleased on how its turned out. I didn't go with a '96 GT like yours simply because I didn't want an automatic, and all '96 GT's are auto's. If you ever have questions, you can just PM me, always happy to help.

Got a new windshield installed today. It was only $145 bucks - not bad.
I went to a wheel repair shop yesterday. They gave me the bad news that my wheels are laterally bent or twisted beyond repair. I'm ordering Enkei RPF1's in 17"x7.5 et48 or steel grey Rota Tarmac II's in 17"x7.5 et48. I have to decide by tomorrow! Any opinions? The Enkei's are over $300 more.

I traded my WRX wheels & received the UK17's in their current state, completely unaware that they were bent! In the sellers defense, I don't think he honestly knew they were bent. I got bent on these wheels, now I don't even have a snow tire & wheel combo :smt021 BTW, if anyone is looking for a couple spare UK17's I'll make you a hell of a deal.
I love the RPF1's & think they're classic wheels but I couldn't resist the price of the Rota's. Over $400 less than the RPF1's. Sorry guys, on a bit of a budget as I'm still putting myself through college and working two jobs to keep my head above water.
I went with Rota Tarmac II's in 17", plain silver. I almost went with steel grey but I think the silver will really pop against the red. Pics next week before I leave on my trip to California.

I changed the tranny & rear diff fluid & gave it an oil change yesterday + the new windshield went in last week.
It might rub just a hair on the passenger side fender wall. I just got another proper alignment today which should help. I don't think I'm going to roll up the fender wall as I'm going to be installing a 22mm front sway bar with Whiteline alloy endlinks, poly bushings and heavy duty mounting brackets when I get back from California.
I'll be hammering HWY 101 later today on my way to Arcata, CA. On Sunday I'll be in Palo Alto for an Inter Milan vs. Club US soccer game! Can't wait!

Thanks! So I currently have too much suspension stuff sitting around waiting to go in!
I have the RalliTEK F&R sway bars
F&R heavy duty mounting brackets
Rear endlinks
Whiteline alloy front end links
STi Group N top hats
OE JDM Bilstein's (GT-B)
Rear strut tower bar
Cusco front strut tower bar (coming from wagonofdoom)
I also have a braided SS clutch cable, AVO gearbox mount set, RalliTEK shifter bushings, STi group N tranny mount and a couple other pieces that are slipping my mind. All I need to do is order some rear brake rotors & pads for my drum to disc conversion and get a long weekend off! I want to do everything all at one time. I can't believe how many parts I've accumulated and not put on the car!
I'm also going to be picking up a winter beater Legacy. Its a 1994 Legacy GT wagon - BF chassis code with the very rare raised roof! This one has 253K and is an automatic. Its such a rare car I can't pass it up. Its still got the very rare rear bumper lip, JDM side skirts, 14" mesh BBS style wheels, and turbo front bumper and grill. I can't wait to get it! Only mods will be a complete suspension refresh (ball joints, bushings & KYB GR-2's) and a set of 2.5RS 5 spokes. I'll post pics as soon as I get it but be aware its no looker like my BD.

I'm not sure how old you are Shane or what your overhead is, but as a single 23 year old male I make it just fine on that pay. No, I'm obviously not balling out of control but at the same time I never feel strapped for cash. I bring home almost double the minimum wage + I have health care so I am in no position to complain.

I insured the car today and drove it over to my friends house and changed the oil undercover - it was pouring rain! I really miss driving this car around, its a much different experience than my 1st gen - so direct.
I've decided at some point in the future that I will be selling my '91 and saving up for a '98-'99 Outback Limited wagon. I'm really specific about the exact model I'm after. With a hefty original MSRP of $27,000, I am looking for a limited automatic with dual power moonroofs, black leather, and cold weather package (heated seats, mirrors and windshield). I'm really particular when it comes to color so I'm only looking for winestone ('99 specific) or Ruby Mica - ('98 specific). Although cars101.com says they never made Mica Ruby on Limited Outback's I swear I've seen them before. Whatever color I end up with I'll be doing a repaint and removing the cladding, adding GT skirts, JDM kouki front bumper, GT-B 17's, a JDM kouki rear bumper with lip, RFRB wagon rear spoiler (my favorite), JDM spats, JDM slim door trim, projectors, grill and kouki smoked tails - a complete GT-B replica. I'm purchasing one of these to compliment my sedan.
I'm always switching ideas but I absolutely love the second generation Legacy. In my opinion its the perfect blend between new age amenities and creature comfort and lightweight rawness. The 2nd gen remain's my favorite Subaru ever besides the GC8 which I'm also a huge fan of but can't get past the purchase price. They always seem beat up with mods I don't want or cost an arm and a leg.
Here is my inspiration.

Unfortunately I don't know its origin. My local Subaru repair shop called me about it. They had an Outback SUS come in on trade and I guess a couple of the techs tried to fit it to their WRX & GC RS's. They said they had no use for it so I got it for free! Score.

No this is the Impreza bar kit. The front bar is pretty much the same for any NA Subaru. The rear bar takes modification to fit as it sits too high up and hits the spare tire well. You just have to dent in the spare tire well. Not a big deal. If I don't like it I will end up getting a Whiteline Adj. rear bar.

370z is in my opinion, ugly, and way out of my price point. There is a history between this particular Z and I. I was there when my best friends Parent's purchased it from the dealer. They take excellent care of their cars. I drove it when it had 50 miles, and have since driven it quite a bit. Premium fuel, all scheduled maintenance done on time, always garaged, etc. It was the first track model in Oregon and is still in exceptional shape.
A 350z is a hell of a lot more car than a second generation Legacy. The chassis is much stronger and much more rigid, it has over twice the amount of hp & torque. Legacy's are great cars but they're not what I would consider to be a sports car. I'm not being resentful, I wouldn't doubt a tear dropping from my eye watching somebody else drive off in my baby.
WOW its beautiful, I can't believe you are going to sell for a 350z... Save some money and swap something into this car lol. GL with the sale this is one the most if not the nicest car on here, I really really wish I could buy it

I'm not gone yet, my Sister still has the wagon. :smt024 Keep your eyes peeled on MRII for "Zebodiah" lol

Hey everyone, this is my first post and i wanted to introduce myself. My name is Nick Graham and i am the owner of toby's amazing legacy (dont worry its in good hands!). i havent done much to the car other than put a more aggressive set of wheels on it! I am working on getting some good pictures but for now i have some from my camera phone (not the best pics, but you get the idea). I have known toby for about a year and a half and have been in love with his legacy since i met him back in the day. I had to buy the car when i found out he was selling it. The timing was great because i was looking for a daily driver so i could keep my RS off the road and keep the original miles down (just rolled over 40k) Anyway i will post up the more recent pics of the legacy with the new wheels :)

So i absolutely love the wheels on the legacy, i think they look amazing and they are actually lighter than the rota's that were on the car when i bought it! I am getting slight rubbing in the back if i drive with more than 2 people (even though all 4 fenders are rolled) Might be the price i have to pay for having huge wheels haha

Looks good with the Enkei's on it! Just need some coilovers to cure the rubbing.
I miss the Legacy the most when its raining. I can't get any traction, I either spin tires or the vdc kicks in & I have 50 whp :(
Nick is taking good care of it, His driveway is a lot of win

The car had WRX front brake kit, rotors, calipers, brake booster.
Here is my new daily driver. I'll make its own Members Ride thread one of these days.
AT, 190K. No rust, runs and drives awesome!! Its a pretty clean SS. I got an awesome deal on it, although it needed a bit of work right off the bat. Again, many more details to come in the upcoming months. I really miss my 350Z. This will just be a subtle DD, I plan to save up and purchase an E36 M3 coupe in a year or two to compliment the SS.

I like your how your SS looks wingless. I'd thought about trying that with mine if I can ever find a wingless 90-91 in black.

I found my old old laptop today and transferred any and all pics I had on there. I captured some of my favorite images of the car that help tell the story of the build. I loved this car & should have never sold it. I'm glad to be back on the forum in some capacity with my original owner '95 wagon that I'm right in the middle of restoring. I hope you guys enjoy the pics & my words
Here it is in 2006:

Clean & completely stock. This was my starting point. I don't have any pics of the interior, but there wasn't much of a story to tell. It was salmon-esque & although in great shape, nothing to write home about.

I joined SL-i and started to completely fall in love with the car. I was absolutely enthralled and incapacitated with driving, modifying and researching everything there was to know about these cars. I began to source parts. I got all the GT goodies (side skirts, lips (f&r), rear wing, JDM side markers, tails, mirrors, grill & more... It was safe to say I was addicted to this car & was anal retentive about every last detail & I didn't know how to stop myself!

At this point I got the car lowered and installed the front and rear bumper lips. I thought this was a great look. Simplistic & clean. I look back and now regret sticking the rear wing on. Also note the 2 piece headlights, oem grill, US mirrors and lack of foglights.

I got the foglights, JDM headlights, JDM grill, JDM mirrors, GT sideskirts and STi axle back all installed. At this point the car was riding on 16"x7 ADVAN TC et48. I liked those wheels a lot. They were very lightweight.

With the exterior really coming together, I wanted to tie in the interior and focus some attention here. I got black WRX carpet, STi floor mats, WRX pedals, an OEM MOMO shift knob, a RedlineGoods shift boot & JDM v6 STi steering wheel. You can see the JDM power folding mirror switch in a close up. Also pictured was my "ice" - a Rockford Fosgate sub powering a 10" Infiniti Kappa Perfect. It sounded pretty good.

A very rare late model JDM bumper became available on eBay that had the factory optioned parking poll. It was not cheap! I purchased it from J-Hot out of Texas who is unfortunately no longer in business. I sourced the correct fogs & wired everything up. The car was finally nearing its cosmetic perfection in my opinion. It had all the right pieces to me at that point.
