Hmmm, when I went to vote there was only 3 options and I was like "what the hell, he only listed a few of the many model codes" but then once I voted and the results came up there was actually all the codes. Not sure what's up with that.

AFAIK the BJ was another designation on some first gen wagons. I can't remember why that was though. :?

Wow did I really seriously miss this thread the entire time? Jeez...

Also, of course +1 for the BK wagons. For they are indeed the win (None of this raised roof bull crap... kidding! Don't hurt me!). By the way, has anyone else noticed that Scooby's seem to be like, some sort of Pacific Northwest staple? You really can't go anywhere in Washington without seeing at least one Subaru every few blocks or so. Not unlike Honda's, Toyota's, and anything lifted w/4WD xD.

Also, Outbacks ARE listed in the polls... They're a BG [edit: for the 95-99 model anyway, sorry for any confusion] with different exterior trim and a slightly taller suspension.

Martha Stewart on the subject of the internet:
"Reading. It's a good thing!" (Afterwords she was then seen stabbing a girl on a street corner with a sharpened toothbrush for not paying her "rent")

It was, and they did not. But then again in '95 the GT trim didn't have the EJ25, so chock it up to the list I guess .

All this talk of trim levels and various other options has got me thinking, though; why in the HELL did the second gen Leggy have pink cloth upholstery as an option?!? Seriously, I've been living with it for all but 5 years of my life, and I still can't get used to it :smt019

Okay I lied, I'm actually not that huge a fan of the BE (the headlights just kind of kill it for me somehow, I really prefer horizontally oriented headlights, not sure why), but ye olde Scooby is gettin' on in years (the chassis will be at the 250K mark any time now), and my mother's name is on the title, so she makes all the decisions . So far it looks like I'll probably be going with a silver 2.5GT with a manual transmission and 109K on the clock.

You could buy a Subaru without a hoodscoop... but why?

Funny you mention that. This and a bugeye WRX are the only manual transmission Subaru's I could find for under 10 grand that's newer than my car (a requirement my mother was rather adamant about). But there's a good chance we might just get a car trailer and haul my BK down to AZ anyway, so ye olde Scooby may live on to see many more days after all. It'll probably get a hood with a scoop eventually anyway though. As long as you take the stupid crap blocking the scoop out, it should actually do something about extraneous heat regardless of my having some sort of top mount intercooler. Heat tends to rise, you know . But then again, if I'm going to get a hood with a scoop, it's going to be either aluminum or carbon fiber (good luck finding a good aluminum or CF hood without a scoop). Whether I paint said carbon fiber hood or not, well... that's an entirely different story.

(By the by, the BE 2.5GT has no hood scoop. Or at least the one I was looking at doesn't)

How do i tell if my 96 Subaru Legacy GL is a BD model.... where do i look.... as my Chassis # begins with JF1
That's your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). You want to look at Applied Model Code. It's right next to the VIN on the little metal plate in your engine bay (right next to the suspension mount).

Psymon
05-16-2009, 10:05 PM
ok..... so thats what that is.... thx a lot bro.... so does this make it Japs or US model?

Yamazaki
05-16-2009, 10:54 PM
The Applied Model Code is on both A-spec and J-spec cars. The VIN is done very differently however. Since your VIN started the way it did, it's probably from the US. (another big giveaway is the side your steering wheel is on...)

The VIN isn't a model code. Look where it says "applied model" (the REAL model code) on the ID plate. I believe you have a BD7...

Currently and for the foreseeable future, I will only wear insulated hunting boots (https://www.villagevoice.com/best-insulated-hunting-boots/) and drive and maintain my one and only trusty BK 1996 Legacy L wagon

BD- 95-99 Sedan here. I like it. Almost went with a Wagon, but decided against it in the end.
