remove chrome

I have a 95 Ls with a chrome grill and I'm wanting to remove it and paint it but the chrome seems tought to remove for the paint to stick.

Sand it off...not that hard. Sand and then wetsand the entire grille, paint it, wetsand it lightly again and paint it again. Repeat, clear coat and no worries.

a power sander would work waay better than hand sanding to get the chrome off. I just roughed up the chrome, painted, and primed, and now it's peeling.
