Hello everyone, my name is Mike and ive been in love with subaru since about 96 or 97, since i was about 9 or 10 and saw then in rally races and so forth, i just love the rumble of a boxer 4 and how it sounds like no other car out there. About a month or so ago my mothers friend sold me her 1991 legacy LS sedan 5 speed, and i love it so much, much faster then my old 1992 cavalier RS coupe automatic. The only thing i really dont like about my subaru is that it is FWD only sadly, but with my cavalier about to blow up, i bought it out of need for a car. I have many of ideas for it, but as of now, no money to fund them, im hoping soon to get into a good steady job where i can get an old mail wagon to swap the front clip over, make up a turbo kit and hopefully produce 300HP to the wheels and still be a good reliable car, the only things i really have done to the car is swapped in a CD player, and started making up an exhaust for it, i know it wont be fast but hey, i love it and hopefully soon it will be.

300 whp on that block + reliability? Keep dreaming, kid

(engine swap and you'd very easily be able to push out 300whp)

However, you'd also have to think about the drivetrain and how well the tranny would hold up to that stress. If you really made a huge project out of it, you'd end up doing an AWD swap, because all the strong trannies available to Subarus are of the AWD variety.

I won't ramble anymore, welcome to the forums!

Welcome.

There are shops that will swap in a WRX drivetrain for around $3500.

You can get a USDM STI swap for around 6K.

A 1st gen Leggy that is na and fwd isn't a very good platform for a build IMO. You'd be better off to buy a little newer Suby or an SS or something. You'd have a much better platform to build apon that way.

I'd just save up for a genuine AWD platform...
