Hello everyone. I am Clinton [Clin10 on forums, lol] and I have a 2007 Impreza 2.5i SE.....you can call it a Leggy on a budget. I have been looking at this forum for almost a year and a half and I like the community.

As you may have known, the Impreza has a sorta bad rep, at least in my age group [you should know how old I am after saying that] and thanks to even being revved at by tuner cars even with my mom riding when I bring her to stores, I think it is time to switch up.

I had it in my mind to get a patron on my mom's mail route's 99 Legacy L 35th AE but he still has it, so my birthday came around [April 2nd] and I wanted to get a car and also get a job...car came first for some reason and all the Legacies my mom was looking at cost too much and since the car had to be in her name I didn't want a killer for insurance and gas, so I pointed out a 2.5i....5 days later I had a Impreza 2.5i, and it has been trouble eversince. alarm screwed up, windows squeal at different times [almost when it wants to], and as mentioned above, the annoying people wanting to race against me when I am just on a cruise to a friend's house.

I am going to my dealer tonight to ask about the trade-in. I am looking at 3 potential cars.

-2 2006 2.5i SE's
-1 2005 2.5GT Ltd.

How is the 2.5GT on insurance with my mom's truck and me [2001 Chevy Tracker LT. 46 yrs. old clean record]. is it as bad as a WRX? I am hoping to become part of this community and still keep in touch with my Impreza brethren. Hope to also get a bit of support in the choice as my friends are starting to hate me but don't know how annoying it is to have a modded SRT-4 rev on a 173HP Automatic Impreza....

Well.. the 2.5 GT is turbo charged so that engine alone will cost you more for insurance. I don't know the answers to any other questions.. sorry.. !

any clue to if it is less than a WRX....I am hoping it should be since it seems of a different status. and it is all good, at least U responded. most forums won't at a question like that. thanks

hmmm, ok. I drive calmly so no one has to worry about me raising the insurance on BL 2.5GT's if I get one  and for reference, I am 17, and I proved myself by driving like a slug [towards others my age] in a 2.5i even tohugh I could've been full throttle like some of the nuts I came across. and I also love the Auto in the Subies. smoothest shifting tranny I've driven.

I would go with the limited just for the sole fact it will have a nice leather interior.. like my 99 LGT ltd! Plus they just have a few extra 'creature comforts' that will really make you enjoy the car both for commuting and chillin.

They are great cars.. let us know what you go for!

Personally, I think there is no reason to have a non-turbo impreza at all (unless its a gc). The legacy has always been the more comfortable, more cruiser friendly of the two.

The Legacy GT insurance is tons cheaper than the Impreza turbos and may be very comparable to the 2.5i. You never know till you get a quote.

both are nice but the turbo will raise the insurance significantly, the negating factor is that the turbo is much more fun to drive...

I think the insurance should be similar between the LGT and a WRX. At least for me (24yrs old)

dude, the WRX is on the top ten list for insurance. I've heard that the LGT, turbo and all, is barely higher in insurance over the non turbo Subarus.

it all depends on the company and the area. Always get quotes.

Will you get less revs by tuner cars when driving a newer Legacy? Yes.

when i called progressive for an insurance quote (actually called twice and both said the same thing) they considerd the WRX and STI up there with a porsche.. he even said that depending how my record was, it would be cheaper to own a corvette  ...

If you like to drive slow, then go with the non-turbo. If you're not going to take full use of the faster car, then why do you need it? It'll cost more in insurance and gas (remember, turbo cars need premium). I'd rather have the GT, and I'd also rather have a manual, but that's because I like shifting and I like the feeling of fast acceleration. I'm also at altitude, so turbo's come in handy up here.

That's my take on the whole thing.

Yea, true, but just a general idea is good enough, lol.

well, I drive slow for a really good reason. at the moment, the Impreza is under my mom's name [which is understandable], any ticket on my provisional and the points will stay with me longer, and insurance will kill me if I get one ticket, but yea, at times I get the spirit, but I don't hold it, lol.

Yesterday I went to one of the crooked Subie dealers down the road from me and they say my car's trade-in value is $14k. the lady told me that "when you drive the car off the lot, the price drops by 30%, for me that means my trade-in is $16,142.30 by how much I paid for this. now I bet if I go to my normal dealer [Nitti's Subaru] they may find a way to get me a BL 2.5i in some way. I was wondering why I travel almost 35 miles to another dealership instead of the one that is 2 miles away, and now I know why. the damn mechanic in there [when I was trying to talk about the warranty] didn't even know every 2.5i has VVT and stock Equal Lenth headers. they kept interupting me when I spoke, and didn't understand most of what I was talking about. it may have been a 2 mile trip, but I am going back to my main dealer, lol

EDIT: Also, I had the Impreza since April 7th, 2007

Dude, you're going to lose a lot of money looking at an LGT or a 2.5i (Legacy). I mean, we're talking a good 4,000 dollars down the drain that you'll never get back in resale. I think the smart decision is just to keep the impreza, and ignore the idiots.

I do understand this, and yea, I will lose out on a rare Impreza at that [rare to find a GD N/A that has sunroof and Auto Climate and 6-disc standard] and I always do ignore the idiots but the idiots cost me gas [a-la missing my exits trying to go around them] I always get waves from over Impreza owners. but also I am thinking of insurance purposes. ATM I think how it is set up it is about $4k/yr, or something like that. But Also I had cops tail, or even turn around/chage direction to follow my car like it is under suspision [typo]. it happened 4-6 times in a 2 month period, even on the second day that I had it I had a cop almost following me even though someone sped past me. Don't get me wrong though, I do want to keep my Impreza, but the Leggy seems less of a hassle for anything like what is happening now to happen any more/less frequently.

Sell the car. Buy a 99 Legacy GT.
Save on insurance, hassles and monthly payments.

I got a quote earlier in the year for a 2007 Spec.B and I am actually paying about $400 less than that in my WRX with the same company... I'd have to say that's close enough. My birthday isn't until next month so its not becuase of that and usually they wait till the next billing year to make any pricing changes due to age. I have a spotless driving record as well.

Huh, most WRX ---> LGT converted owners brag about the hundreds less they pay in insurance. Maybe it's just the Spec B?

I went on Allstate.com and did the ballpark estimate. The Legacy is a bit cheaper for me at my age. *shrug*

It'll always vary by insurance company.

well, I decided to keep my Impreza unless it starts to happen more [the cop part I mean]. I am a young driver, and I don't need to drive around with a guilty consionce [typo] of cops always looking at my car. Today, me, my mom and dad took a cruise all the way down the NJ Shoreline [Belmar, Asbury Park, Seaside Heights] and before we started to head home after Seaside Heights, this happened (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=18499970&postcount=907) <~~post I made on NJIC; and it is a mix of feelings for me, but it gets to annoying if ya know what I mean once ya read it. if it happens again, heck, I can deal with a 04 GT Ltd. in black or a 05 2.5i

Yeah, profiling is a bitch.

Clin10

that is why I am wanting to really trade up. now me madre [the main decision maker since the car IS in her name.] and NJ doesn't allow you to have your own insurance until U are 18....and I am 17 [Ohhh......so close!] then it is up to her, and IMO, I can deal with a older Leggy, I want to hear a rumble thanks to my EL headers. I am still wondering HOW many people look down under the spoiler, and bumper, knobby tires and see the peashooter exhaust!!?? I had 2 freakin' ricy Integras dipping through traffic trying to get to me and a 06 RSX-S......how do I know...because everytime I seen the passenger he kept pointing at my car and pushing the driver [actions, not physically] to catch any of us even though we were both doing the speed limit. and that was after the shore. I didn't want to post that on NASIOC because they would've been jerks and say "U shoulda raced them"
