I don’t think I can hold back my temptation for the new style Subaru Forester any longer. I’ve always said I’m buying a Forester STi when/if they make it to these shores; but now with the 08’ Forester Sports being offered with a handful of STi bolt-ons, it’s damn close enough for me! :grin:

Only thing is; I’d have to find a new owner for my boosted BD Legacy before picking up a Forester. I can only have one money sucking project at a time if ya know what I mean. Don’t get me wrong; I love the LGT and have a blast with it constantly; but being the original owner I have logged 9+ years with it in many different trims, setups, power-levels, etc. Sooo…anybody on this forum interested by chance? Just for the record; it’s this LGT which just put down 410whp/382ftlbs :twisted:

Actually I’ve already taken this approach since the beginning of the year. It hasn’t had the alky system installed since the 2.5l motor, and the PPG 1-4 strait-cut (loud as hell) tranny has been removed, along with the gadget’y electronic boost controller. It now has a PPG helical cut 1-2 (quiet as stock, yet 3x as strong) and new style (05+) wrx 3,4,5 gears, and a new TXS boost solenoid to replace the EBC. No need for alky any longer, the car puts down 348whp/327ftlbs on 93 pump gas. Strait from the gas station into the car, no messing with boost controllers, loud transmissions, or other gadgets, just put your foot down and feel the 327ft-lbs of torque want to snap your neck. Or fill it with C16 race-fuel and unleash the 410whp numbers…

The thing I’m noticing about swaps is that everybody wants one, but nobody wants to buy an already completed one. Logic and history clearly seems to prove that it’s significantly cheaper and a whole lot easier to buy one already swapped then to undergo the job yourself. Not to mention they’re so popular nowadays that you can’t even buy a complete drivetrain with harness & ecu anymore without dumping a huge wad of cash, as they’re all scooped up by the resellers who see the demand in the market.

I have a couple prices in head, but it’s hard to say what’s its worth to me… I try to look at it; how badly do I want a Forester Sports!!!!

The ideal buyer would be an enthusiast who appreciates the unique one of a kind characteristic of the car, who could afford to buy the vehicle outright, and one who would carry on the reputation and..well.."legacy" of this Legacy :lol:

The downer with what you're planning is that the car itself is so custom, no-one can be totally guaranteed that some kind of shortcut wasn't taken somewhere.

I doubt that you cut corners, but others are more skeptical than me.

I'd definitely buy that car, but there's no way I could swing that much cash. I think the problem becomes that people want swapped vehicles, but the people who want them don't have the money to buy everything up front at one time, or already completed. Those who do seem to want to do the swap themselves. I'd love to have it, but there's no way I could afford it, or even lowball it. :-(

I bought my first BD (99 stock with custom interior and 35k miles) for 13.9k and bought my 2nd BD with pretty much everyhting swapped and 3k on new motor for 15.5k.

I spend 1600 to get a track setup car, when it would have coast well over 5k to turbo my first stock BD (18-20k total for track set up)

If you want a BD that is fast then this is a car you want. On the other hand since it is custom there will be more problems then a stock BD (trust me I know)

Depending on what the setup (suspention and drivetrain) of the car is, I would expect it to go for around 15k-17k maybe more. If its a full STI engine swap and not just the block it would be on the high end. If its just the block and the engine is hybrid I would put it in the middle some where. Again it really depends on the whole set of the car!!

As far as loans go, if you put enough down then you can get a loan for the car. Even though KB or whatever says my white BD was only worth 8-9k I got a loan for 10k and put 5k down. They asked me if I wanted to pay this much for this car. I knew what the car had done to it and how much it would have cost to do it so I said yes.

Good luck with the sale! I would be interested in knowing the whole setup. I have been down this road but the more and more I think about it, I probably will keep my BD and sale my X.

Since this wasn’t an actual FS advertisement, I didn’t include the mod-list and full spec’s of the car. The thing that’s difficult to convey to a potential buyer is how well the entire swap has been working. I mean everything is operational; ABS, AC, cruise-control, air-bags, defroster, etc., these are all the things that thrown together swaps lack because whomever couldn’t figure it out. The best part is that it’s fully OBD-II operational and therefore emissions inspection station compliant. I just passed my rigorous MD inspection this March. No tricks, no special fuels, the car simply produces no further CELs because everything works like it should!

Anyway, thanks all for the input. I haven’t decided if I’m going to “officially” announce the sale or not. It all depends on how much longer I can hold off the temptation for a new Forester. The whole reason I started this thread is because I went on a local group run with THIS (http://www.toddlampone.com/pictures/subaru/nautilus%5Frun%5F2007/) bad ass Forester this past weekend and totally dig it! To recoup the maximum amount of your investment, you would be better off taking the entire car apart, and putting in a stock motor. Then reselling all your parts on the side.

Unfortunately, that is a task that is pretty heavy in of itself, plus the agony of tearing apart all the work you put into the car.

The truth is, a lot of people think they would like to own a swapped car, but when they look at the costs, they never really follow thru with it.

The end state of this vehicle once finished will be a stock 1998 Legacy GT Limited sedan with a full 2004 WRX engine/drivetrain swap. The engine & drivetrain will be completely stock. For those interested in the car; here’s a thread (on another forum) that details the full mod list, some pictures, and a handful of vids. This detail is of the car in the current highly modified “as-is” form. It’s getting detailed this week and going up for sale as-is. If it doesn’t sell in that state; then it gets converted back to a completely stock WRX swap and sold at the much lower price.
