All new to Subaru (My other cars are both GM)... so I've read around the net a bit. Right now I'm leaning towards the Whiteline rear sway bar. I'm having some difficulty finding where I can buy one online - seems that a lot of sites are engineered to the 05 Legacy and kinda leave the 01 in the dark. I'm not even too sure now if Whiteline has a rear bar for the 01 sedan. If your'e feeling nice today: post a link where I can buy one!

I'm considering upgrading the tranny mount as well, seeing how I could easily wiggle the tail of the trans around by hand when the car is up on the lift. Is the STI mount I see all over the place applicable to the Legacy? Has anyone used some shore poly urethane to fill their stock mount?

Don't know about the mounts, but...

Depending on what size you want to go with when upgrading your rear sway bar, you have a few options.

If 18mm will be sufficient, I would recommend going to your local suby junk yard and getting the bar off of a similar year Outback model. These are stock at 18mm, fit perfectly, and can be had at a fraction of the price of 'aftermarket' bars.

Cusco and Whiteline both make great bars as well. Cusco only makes a bar that is at largest 18MM, though...even though I tend to prefer Cusco for suspension components. I believe Whiteline offers 18-21 adjustable. More than likely, no US vendor has any of these in stock, so they will have to be special ordered. Therefore, find a vendor that offers any whiteline products and shoot them an email. If you cannot find any whiteline vendors, there are several on NASIOC that offer buys every so often. There was actually a group buy on bars by a vendor there 6 months ago that saved the buyers somewhere around 20% off of retail.

Another option, which I have no experience with, is IPD. They make a, I believe, 21MM non adjustable bar. You can purchase this through rallitek (http://www.rallitek.com/products.asp?ID ... Y&ACC=&SP= (http://www.rallitek.com/products.asp?ID=126&PP=&HB=Y&ACC=&SP=)).

Good luck, and if you get the IPD bar I would be interested in a review.

An Outback bar of course! A cheap viable solution. I just might have to take a trip out to one of the larger junkyards tommorow. I don't know the size of the bar in there now but its certainly smaller than 18mm. I think I will go with this option for now and perhaps in the future if I desire a larger bar I'll go aftermarket.

As for the tranny mount, I've filled mounts before with poly urethane and had excellent results but never in such a unique situation as the tranny mount for an AWD car.

Thanks for the heads up!

I'm going to check out the local yards for the outback bar first, if they want too much or don't have one in stock then I might go for boxer4racing one. Do the wagons use the same bar as the sedan? As in if I find an outback wagon will the rear bar bolt into my sedan? Also... I have no idea what years make up my generation of Legacy... is it 00-03 that will be all compatible?

thanks again!

I have an IPD 22mm rear sway bar. It make the car handle as Julia Roberts when she plays a ho, "like it's riding on rails". I also have a White Line anti-Lift Kit on the front. Makes the curves o so fun.

I purchase the swaybar from Perfection Motor Sports.

I've got an ipd bar...and it rocks! Best bang for buck improvement on the car. You can get them from rallitek or from ipd (ipdusa.com or subysolutions.com).
