I had a Borla knock off header, stock cats Stromung mid pipe and SPT axle back and it was quiet under normal driving. It was a little more louder at high rpms. If you punch it, it screamed.

sounds good

does it have to be a legacy specific axleback, or do impreza and other fit ?

also, where to get it ?

They were selling for $95. In fact some one had a sedan model that was sent to him by mistake. Check the classifieds.

STi takeoff exhaust works well too.

Are you really in iceland? I'd start looking for a muffler local. Not a glass pack, that'd be too loud, but maybe a chambered muffler of some kind.

why would i lie to you :-?

what is a glass pack ?

do impreza axlebacks work ? i dont care if i have to do a bit of welding, thad´s not a problem.

Would a STi axleback fit ?
if it does it would be nice becose it´s easy to get a hold of one here

Any muffler would fit if you are willing to go with the welding method. If you want the typical Boxer rumble out of our motor, you will need UEL (Unequal header - Borla or Borla replicas off of Ebay - current vendors: A2R or SpeedyRacer) plus whatever muffler you want to put on. From my research, I found that N1 style muffler and bigger diameter midpiping gives slight boxer rumble without purchasing aftermarket UEL header but it will be quite loud. If you want to keep your car decently quiet and want to add boxer rumble then I'd go with the aftermarket UEL header and stick with stock or get a nice aftermarket muffler(ie: Magnaflow - I love mine). If you are concerned about the performance gain then Id go with UEL header, Optional: High Flow Cat, Mandrel bent or catback WITH resonator welded inbetween the piping plus universal or a wrx or sti muffler which has better flow than our stock muffler.
For more info, got o rs25.com and go to N/A tuning

They have video/sound clips of different setups. Or go on Youtube and you can find many different clips as well.

I hope this helps and if someone catches any mistakes that I've informed, please feel free to correct me.

I have the Borla header and an STI axleback, sounds good. Not to loud but definetly has the boxer rumble. I prefer this route since I got mine for free.

My buddy has a magnaflow on his WRX, I mean granted, he has 3 inch piping all the way back, but it sounds pretty good also. I think if you went with a magnaflow with 2.25 or 2.5 inch piping, you would be in good hands. They can be had pretty cheap on ebay.

what is a glass pack ?

They all basically look the same, It's what I have for my muffer tucked underneath the car a little bit after the cat.

It seems quiet enough for me ,but it might be louder than what you are looking for.

^^^^I think you will be pleased. Takes minor modification to the hangers but that's no big deal.

Yep. A glass pack for future referance is what most of those "cheap" mufflers are. It's a perforated pipe surrounded by fiberglass to insulate the sound. Then another can is wrapped around that. The old school cherry bombs (pictured above) have become more or less replaced nowadays with the stainless steel versions most rice cars have. Magnaflows glasspack, but I think they use multiple densely packed layers to reduce sound waves much greater.

My car does not sound like rice, and the less restiction is wonderful

I have a Holley, but Magnaflow, cherry bomb, and dynomax also make them in the old fashioned red.

I think however, I'm going to ditch it later this year for a Flowmaster and 2.25 piping.

Not all cars sound bad with them installed, however, they don't "muffle" very much and tend to be very loud. So if the motor doesn't sound good to begin with, it can only exaggerate it. It is a style of muffler altogether different from a chambered muffler.

Oh and FWIW, a glass pack is a great way to make a resonator with a second muffler. If you use a length of glass pack instead of straight pipe you can alter your exhaust note. The perforations can add up and create more turbulence and slow the exhaust flow, but the effects shouldn't be very vast.

will these headers fit my car ?

ebay link (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BORLA-HEADERS-HighFlow-Subaru-Impreza-97-04-17183_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33630QQihZ001QQitemZ110061172616QQrdZ1/url)

Yes, but you should go with the OBX headers instead. The borla's use thinner pipes, have worse welds and are more expensive. Check out this thread:

so this will fit ?
and will this bolt up to the rest of the Oem exhaust ?

I am running 06 wrx axleback on my 02 leggy....
it sounds somewhat deeper around 1000rpm but after all it sounds like bone stock....

Right now, I have a chance to trade my wrx axleback for a magnaflow. I tried to find some video clips for it but I cant find anything. :S

Do you guys know if magnaflow is really loud or it has a bit more rumble and not so loud?
