1994 Subaru Legacy 250T Owner in Zambia

Just bought a 1994 Subaru Legacy 250T and I am based in Zambia. Would like all sorts of information on this older model.

Looks like a standard Legacy with a 250T badge... basically a USDM GT.
Typically a wagon too.

Actually I have just bought it from Yokohama and its in the process of getting shipped. Never owned a Subaru before, been basically a Toyota animal until now.

I am due to pick it up from Dar-Es-Salaam port around end July /Early August.

What got me hooked to it was the interior. It has leather seats and a seemingly spacious interior plus double sun-roof.

The Subaru Legacy 250T wagon has been shipped from Japan to Dar-es-Salaam (Tanzania). I am based in Lusaka (Zambia) and the car is therefore going to face an immediate grueling 1531 KM drive across Africa’s notorious pot-holed and bumpy roads once I collect it in 2 weeks.

My assumption is that the car has been idling at the dealers showroom for a while and will also have been on the Ship for about 3 weeks.

After collecting it, I intend to do a full car service. Being a car novice, what are the things I should check/ replace /service?

The basics I can think of are an Oil Change, Filters and Wheel Balancing & Alignment.

What else should I look out for to ensure the car is in tip-top shape?

The car has a 65 litre fuel tank and a 2.5 L engine. How many Km’s should I expect to cover before re-fuelling if I set off on a full tank?

Things To Do.
Full Service, spark plugs, air/oil filter, oil change... all the works and be sure to pay lots of attention to rubber components like CV boots etc....
(do that as soon as you get a chance)

7/10 chance the cars battery is going to be dead so if you could borrow a electronic battery jumper just in case or bring extra cash just in case u have to buy a new battery. (they kill the batteries while in long range shipping)

And lastly prepare to do some hardcore cleaning
