i believe the eibach springs and the whiteline flat-outs are the lowest.. i have the flatouts and they are low..

the first pic is when they've settled alittle more.. i think you'd run into problems with rubbing since your running 18's, if you went with the flatouts..

Uh, WRX struts (02-03), WRX front tophats from an '04, and rear mounts from an '04 on Tein S-Tech Springs made my BD really low. REALLY LOW.

See link below, first post.

I have to ask...are you just going low for looks, or out of some (probably misguided) notion that you're improving handling by doing this?

Reason

TEIN is a good company, but don't buy those $150 springs on eBay. Theres no performance gain from them, they are just for looks. Spend some money and get the TEIN coilovers $1,500. I think that's what I'm going to do.

Yea, My ride height is kind of a problem with the beat ass roads in upstate NY.

FWIW, with the pro-kit installed it sits just low enough but the handling and the feel of the car is just amazing at the same time.

I want the car to handle better and lower too. My car sits too high with the 18s. I might end up going with coilovers. I have not decided yet.

Going "the lowest" is going to make it ride like ass, and probably not do as much for handling as you would think. Giving the suspension some travel has great benefits. Read the sticky by Scottzg about handling.

And going real low on 18's, that's going to be a tight fit. Lots of rubbing.

well i went the lowest (flatout) and it doesnt ride like ass. Its low and springs are alittle stiff, but it still handles very well and the ride is very good.

edit: also, i looked at my car last nite, i def. dont think you'd fit with the flatout springs..

Just go with the coilovers. Check Nasioc for used Tein Flexes. The GC and GDA coilovers will both fit our cars.

With Koni inserts and H&R springs my car sits very low. I cant fit more then the tip of my finger between the wheel well and tire in the back

Not necessarily the best option because of the limited suspension TRAVEL. The fitment works, but the strut itself might not have enough rebound travel for the car.

For coilovers, I'm looking at getting a set of ksport pro gt dampers. They make them already sized right with the right spring rates and travel for the BD/G/K. They're pricey, ~1500-2000, but they're the only coilover setup that's designed for the leggy that I've found.

^^ ebay has them for $1200.

Friend of mine just blew all four Ksport dampers on an 05 Legacy 2.5i... weird. 1 day over the 1 year warranty.

That is a little weird. Did he ever get them rebuilt? I'm pretty sure they need to be rebuilt every once in a while. It does seem weird that they blew in a year though...

Whoever he bought them from wouldn't honor the warranty. Some of the hardcore autoxers don't like ksports... but they are "hardcore".

That's strange. Do you know who he bought them from? I'd like to avoid bad retailers if I can.

Hahaha. If I was hardcore about it I wouldn't auto-x my daily driver. I'm in it more for the fun.

Nope. I have a good -1 or -2 degrees in the back. I want to fix this...

So it sounds like you do have bolts. Where'd you get them?

You'll automatically gain negative camber when you lower a car.

I just put eibach 1.5 in lower springs from a rs2.5 in my LGT. I haven't driven it yet, but I am already confident, that they are coming back out. I'm tucking about 3/4 of an inch in the back (stock wheels/tire size) and have around 1/2 inch gap in the front. It looks badass, but i know it's gonna ride like ass.

If you had the right fitment & spring rate...you'd be fine.

I have 18's. I chose Whiteline Control Springs, which I think drop the car the least. The springs settle over time, so if the spring says a 2" drop, expect a 2 1/2" or 3" drop when your all settled in.

scottzg
07-23-2007, 10:41 PM
im here because i searched my name.

huge drop won't do any harm and may make the car easier to drive so long as you're on a really smooth surface (meaning no road dips, bumps, weird banks, etc), you have appropriately stiff springs and dampers, and you've adjusted your alignment to suit your new stance.

Me, i like driving mediocre roads in the hills and don't want to have to worry about that next dip ruining my line through a turn, so i run softer stuff and leave a little more travel in my suspension. I think my car looks like sex- sloppy seconds to be specific- whatever.

Lowered cars don't handle like crap just because they're lowered, they handle like crap because the silly owner doesn't know how to drive well enough to recognize their car handles poorly and needs to be readjusted to suit the lowered ride height or raised back up to suit the roads shes driving on. I've gotten to wring out quite a few modified cars at this point, and i've experienced everything from surprisingly good to scary-dangerous.

you don't gain perceptible negative camber in the rear when you lower the car. I've bored out strut bolt holes to gain more negative camber with success on both my cars. 1mm does a lot. I've also used an angle grinder to take a little off the side of a grade 8 bolt- like how crash bolts are. Gotta have a way to keep the bolt cool while you do this. I'm not responsible if you take my advice and ruin your car and kill yourself.

The biggest drop is gonna be cut springs. Intrax, tien, and whiteline make some serious drop springs if you want similar handling and 200$ less money.

What Eibach spring kits are you guys talking about for the BD Legacy's??

I recently acquired a BD and am looking into springs. I see Eibachs for Imprezas, but none listed on a few sites for my '98 LGT.

Just curious if anyone can provide the part numbers or something for which Eibach kits you guys are using on the BD's.

I was considering the iON Performance springs as that is what I have on my BE Legacy and have been quite pleased with them.

All help greatly appreciated.

Dunno about that listing, they don't seem to know the compatible model years very well

thanks for the info. Not sure why that didn't come up when I searched on eBay before.

Picked myself up a set... $251 shipped w/ insurance ($209 + $40 + $2).

A great deal and will go nicely on my new GR2's I ordered two days ago.

Ok... ebay vendor said that the Eibach Pro kit for our BD's has been discontinued. Not sure how he even listed it since items are 'supposed' to be in stock only for eBay.

I see another vendor (one linked above) still has the item listed, but can't find much info on it elsewhere.

Anyone know if they are discontinued? Anyone get a set recently new?

I found two other sites that sell them for a good price and emailed them.

Ok, but those are almost double the cost. I'm on a strict budget as I'm going through a lot of things on the car and an extra $250 for springs is a lot easier to swallow than $400.

Reason

Yes the whitelines are a lot. Get the H&R's, look for them on ebay.

$249 at your door, thats not bad for H&R's.

also example pics of each would be great.

I've had a few WRX owners who hated the H&R's... so I'm leery of their products.

ride comfort is a concern. I may just wait until the spring and get the iON Performance springs as that is what is on my BE and it's the perfect compromise lowering spring.

I found a company on e bay that has Whiteline goodies for our cars. They quoted me $275 shipped for a complete set of Control springs for my 98 Outback. $150 and $175 for the strut braces shipped (if ordering both at the same time save $15). The company is Never Enough Auto Enough. They can be reached at neverenufonline@hotmail.com. Also, does anyone know where to get camber bolts? Whiteline had camber bushings but.......
