Legacy , Outback separated for good.

"For 2008, Subaru has decided to simplify your car shopping experience whether you wanted them to or not. Gone are the Legacy Wagon and Outback Sedan. All Legacy models going forward are sedan-only, and all Outbacks are wagon-only. Frankly, we think this kinda stinks, as the Legacy Wagons were good-looking, sporty machines that allowed buyers to get a car with a good level of utility without having to also take the pseudo-SUV, moderately jacked-up look of the Outback. That's all over. It all obviously makes sense to Subaru, otherwise it wouldn't have made the change, and while we're fans of the Legacy wagons, we must say that the majority of newer Legacy-family cars we see in that body style are indeed Outbacks. Likewise, based on what we see on the roads, the standard Legacy Sedan easily outnumbers the newly-defunct Outback Sedan. Of course, in Japan and other markets, you can still a Legacy Wagon, and the JDM Outback's got a better-looking face, too. This seems to be an America-only bummer."

I think here in Canada we still will get the Legacy wagon, so I am happy. Its kinda weird as, except for the new gen Leg, easily 90% of Legacies I see are wagons. I think the wagon only call on the Outback is good as I very rarely see an Outback Sedan of any generation, but the Legacy sedan only call doesn't make sense. Not a big deal for me though, as although I like my Leg wagon, the next Leg I would be buying will most likely be a sedan anyway (we already have another wagon, so not much point of having two). But there are people out there who want a new Legacy, but want a wagon , and don't want an Outback - I guess they can drive north and buy a Leg wagon from Canada :wink: .

You guys are crazy, they aren't doing away the Legacy and Outback. They are just separating them. Which I'm sure they will save the same body parts in the past. So what would stop you from putting on a outback bumper on your Legacy sedan? I feel if you can still swap parts like in the past what's the big deal?

No, they're still compatible, except that if you want a raised sedan, or a non-raised wagon, you're going to have to mod it right away. Not all people want to do that...

who knows maybe there will be different models of outbacks or legacies within line up meaning as an option you can have it raised or lowered. unicolor or two tone. lets wait and see how badly they screw with us.

Marks current car is a legacy wagon (for all intents and purposes) with a 5MT. Subaru will no longer be offering a legacy wagon, only the outback wagon. if they dont offer a 5mt in the outback wagon either then subaru no longer offers mark a car he would want to buy.

Hardly. Toyota is all about brand diversification and improving existing models. They don't own a controlling share in Subaru.

Hit it on the head. I'd like a Legacy in the future, and I definitely like (and use) the cargo room. The Impreza's too small for me.

I know you can always buy used, but for someone like me who will buy a car and own it forever, buying new is the best option. No previous owners and questionable service/matinence history, and a warranty w/ lemon protection.

But as long as they don't drop the 5MT on the Outback XT, I won't be totally disappointed :wink:

I just came from the suby dealership. I'm thinking about going new. But they didn't have the car that I was looking for. BUT I did see the new Tribeca and that thing is sexy as hell. Shit I might just jump ship and get one of those.

Outbacks have different hoods and fenders. You'd have to swap alot more than a bumper now... I don't care that they don't make the outback sedan, but I wish they would've simply kept the legacy wagon. It's a real shame to see a sporty wagon get sent to pasture when that scene is starting to gain momentum.

I must admit, when I was looking for a car, I did not want a wagon. That said, I ended up with the leggy wagon, and I realized how f'n useful having a wagon is. Being able to carry tires, tools, food, drinks, and people all without a trailer to an auto-x, or skis, gear and a car full of people in comfort is amazing.

I was really hoping that Subaru would offer a 2.5 GT Spec.B wagon; I'd buy one tomorrow if I could afford it. However, this isn't just a Subaru thing; it's an American thing. BMW has made an M5 wagon in both the E34(1989-96, tho only with the later 3.8L S38) and in the current E60 models, for every market except the US. The sporty-wagon hating US people(stereotype, not my belief) dovetails nicely with the hatchback-hating US car buyers(again, another stereotype). If the model isn't selling, despite how much intrinsically better it is, the manufacturer has no reason to produce it, and people like all of us get screwed.
