View Full Version : CELs PO261, 264, 267, 270
I've got a '98 "L" wagon with a 2.2 engine, AT, with the above codes. Those CELs refer to cylinders 1-4 "injector circuit low". What exactly does that mean and what needs to be done to fix it? (The CEL is not on or flashing, but those codes came up when the car went in to get smogged.)
My car is really low on power. To get moderate acceleration out of it, I have to manually shift it into first, then rev the car to 5k before shifting to second. As the engine speed is climbing, it feels like it's in limp mode and when it hits about 3200 rpm, it bogs noticeably till about 4000 rpm. So, I'm thinking that something is wrong with the injector circuit but what is it -- fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, injectors need cleaning, or what else?
Car has 160,000+ miles, compression is about 157 all around, new plugs and wires, Mobil 1 oil. Car has always been low on power since I bought it about 7 months ago.
Any help/suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!

Has the ECU been reset since you bought the car?
I would start by replacing the fuel filter, then having the injectors cleaned to see if that solves the problem.
Yes, the ecu has been reset.
I will start with a new fuel filter to see if that solves the problem.
Thanks for the suggestions!
I was also wondering, in the sticky on OBDII trouble codes, it also lists "injector circuit high" as opposed to "injector circuit low." What is that supposed to mean?

possibly a spike in electricity voltage. check all connections to your injectors.
Will do!
Thank you , too!
Well, I haven't posted in a while so I thought I'd update what's been happening to my car.
A lot of the low power seems to have been rectified by removing the front part of the snorkus. It's the first part of the plastic intake that is attached to the top of the radiator mount and goes into the fender area. Off-line torque and power has noticeably increased as well as passing power if I need to floor it or even 3/4 throttle it. As a great benefit, gas mileage has gone up 2 to 2.5 mpg!

unless it was totally clogged, that doesn't make any sense at all
Heh heh, I can understand why you feel that way. It didn't quite make sense to me either so I reinstalled that front intake piece then drove around--no question, there was a definite difference--sluggish, engine winds up when floored but seems to go nowhere. I took it off and once again it was a marked improvement--much quicker pickup, the car seems to be "cruising" rather than laboring to keep up speed, and it's so much more enjoyable to drive. Oh, there's one more benefit--the AT downshifts readily now compared to before where I had to literally mash the accelerator to the floor and wait a bit before it downshifted.
Oh, yes, the intake was NOT plugged (which is why I had taken it off in the first place to inspect it).
