where to put egt probe? how far from the cyl head?

hey guys how far from the cylinder head should you put a egt probe? some say 6 in from #1 cylinder. some say in the collector. what do you guys recomend?

most customer cars that we do request that it gets tapped on the drivers side collector. On the casting boss. Not sure what manifol/headers you are running.
