92 2.2l into 98 forrestor or 02 Legacy

I have a chance to purchase either a 98 Forrestor or an 02 Legacy Wagon both in need of engines. I happen to have a 92 2.2L that won't die. Which would be the easier swap and what parts would I need to acquire or fabricate?

I wouldn't do either.
A 92 2.2L isn't going to improve either the 98 Forester or the 02 Legacy.

The 98 Forester used a MAF-based intake, the 02 Legacy uses a MAP-based intake.

You could throw in the shortblock and see what happens, but my option would be to grab the best flowing heads and put them onto the DOHC block.

Or, you could just build up a cool NA cruiser in the 02 wagon...

Yeah, not to mention OBDI vs OBDII issues. And the fact that it would probably be as much work as swapping in a WRX engine, only a lot less rewarding when you're done.
