Need Opinion! Yakima or Thule snowboard holder for 98 wagon

Opinion needed !! Yakima or Thule for snowboard holder for 1998 Legacy GT wagon.

Will I need to buy their crossbar to work with snowboard holder or I can use our OEM Subaru crossbar.

Any suggestion welcome.

I don't know about the thule, but Yakima has their own round bars...

They'll both be very good roof racks.

Yes Mark. 98 silver lgt wagon. Its transforming now.

Very fun car to drive, can't wait to go snowboarding this winter.

hey man if you need info on roofrack there is a guy on subaruotback.org that used to work with outdoor gear all the time he has a lot of info on rack especially yakima i think.

Welcome to the wagon family!

I'd go with the Yakima system. I have one for my skis and bikes, and love how easy it is to set up and rearrange. As far as the OEM crossbars go, unless you have small boots, you will have to remove one or the other. The Yakima crossbars will be needed in either case to hold the racks, but with the OEM bars my skis don't fit, and neither does my friend's board. It takes all of a minute and a torx wrench to remove the OEM bars.

"All sorts" as in "more" of the 2nd gen stuff. By popular demand, Andy was carrying a lot more 3rd gen parts, because it's hard to get them, while 2nd gen parts are easier to find through places like JHOT.

I was just hoping he'd carry more as I trust him a lot more than eBay :smile:

I've seen it last week. The interior was already dismantled when Andy drove to the suby meet :lol: Those JDM Legacy 5 spokes really fit the 4 pots andy :grin:

To answer your question Andy, my cousing has a Thule snowboard rack on their family Outlander. It bolts on to the factory crossbar on basically any car that has one.

Another nice thing w/Yakima is that you can fold down the ski/snowboard rack when you're not using it so it doesn't make so much noise and cut into gas mileage. Can't do that w/Thule. Thule is a much better company to deal with if you ever have a warranty problem though.

Yakima has these too. Just got a set.
