Ebrake button broke?

Today when I got in my car to come home from work my ebrake button fell off in my hand, now my ebrake will not set. Could i get just an ebrake handle button? or would i have to order an entire ebrake assembly? i tried getting on subaruparts.com where i normally get my parts but the page must be down.

i dont know of any in my area but when i do, i have a feeling they wont just sell me the button. but ill see.

Goes along with the problem of post whoring. People posting unnecessary posts with the same thing that has already been posted in a thread :wink: (example: it was already pointed out there was another thread on the topic i posted, didnt need someone to say something about it.)

sorry i didnt search, i park on a hill here at school so i was in a rush finguring out what to do.

no worries. Here's a basic diagram of how our parking brakes look like. The spring which pushes on the button makes sure this long piece of wire which is threaded at the end, pushes into a wheel that has teeth on it. This is the clicking you hear when you engage the parking brake. With no more button, no more spring tension on the wire, you need to act like a spring. So grab a bolt (M6 or M8, can't remember, but it's the same as your battery tie downs), put a nut at the end. Thread part of it on to the bolt, and part onto the ebrake thing. Use a coupling nut which is longer or else the bolt might fall out from time to time. Also remember to pull up on the parking brake, relieve the tension, then push the button in. This is the quick fix, but the final solution is a total replacement of the unit.

happen to know the tools needed to take apart the console and switch out for a new ebrake assembly? (Dont have any tools here at school so i was going to have a freind bring what i needed next time he came up.)

phillips head screw driver, 10mm socket, 10mm wrench, 12mm socket. The 10mm tools is to adjust the parking brake if you need to. There's 9 screws holding the entire center console in. Two in the front near the radio, two in the middle (behind the shifter), and 5 in the cubby hold. Technically two of them secure other plastic pieces, so 7 do the actual hold down of the console.

what exactly did you mean by M8 or M6? i went to our local 'Ace Hardware' (only hardware store around here) and they didnt know what i was talking about, nor did they have one that would fit with a coupling nut. i got two tiny nuts, and a washer but i dont think its going to work.

M8 means a metric 8mm thread type. It's technically M8x1.0 or M8x1.25, which means 8mm diameter and 1.25 threads per mm? Something like that. Basically you need a metric nut that can thread on to your battery tie downs because it's the same thread.
