Alright, after thinking hard about what to put money towards next, i finally decided on a full header back exhaust setup for my BD. Ill be doing this project piece by piece so i dont spend so much at once, but here is my plan:

1. Borla knock-off headers

2. Stromung high-flow cat pipe

3. Stromung center pipe

4. Stromung axleback

I came up with this after one day of researching so there may be some things i dont know (reliability/quality issues perhaps) with these parts, so if you guys have had this stuff on your cars at any point, let me know how it worked for you (how it sounded too  ) and what you think of my planned setup. I know some of this stuff is for the Impreza and im not sure if it is all direct bolt on for the legacy (i know the headers are direct replacement, and the axleback is direct replacement, but not sure about the other stuff). And finally, where can i get all these parts for a good price (boxer4racing seems quite pricey). Thanks a lot.

setup looks nice and I don't think you'll get much argument from the crew around here.

Many of us have chosen to get a custom midpipe fabricated with a high flow cat and resonator thrown in the mix. If done locally, you'll be able to get a pretty decent price as well as have a warranty on parts/labor.

I personally had this done using a Magnaflow high spun, high flow cat and whatever resonator the shop used - mated up with the '04 STi muffler I picked up - made for a pretty great sounding exhaust.

Using the idea that bigger is better for the resonator, my exhaust note is pretty subtle, but deep. At WOT it sounds like my car has some muscle without being overbearing on the ears.

As far as headers go - There is always a debate whether the unequal length (UEL) header like the Borla is better or an equal lenghth (EL) is the way to go. The UEL's help creat the nice, mean boxer note we all love, but don't give quite the perfomance gain, while the EL's quiet the rumble a bit (some even say make the car sound line an inline 4), but make better hp gains.

I don't have aftermarket headers on, but if I had to choose right now I'd go UEL's.....a few hp won't make me cry, but I am addicted to the sound Subaru's chug out.

Anyway..my setup

Stock headers>>>Mag.HF HS cat>>Resonator>>Midpipe>>STi Muffler

Total cost incl labor was around $400.

A lot of guys here have done it for cheaper...just gotta shop smart!

Have fun!!
