Well, I found out today that my 1996 has no compression in the left hand side of the engine  . This means ethier valve damage or two blow piston rings. If it's the valves I might have it fixed...if not then, well, honestly I'm not fixing it, or getting another Subaru...maybe an older impreza, Maybe! Unforinatly they are hard to come by here in NY ,and if you do find an impreza they are usualy ej18's, high mileage, and probably autos. I WILL NEVER DRIVE AN AUTO AGAIN IF I CAN AVIOD IT!

I'm thinking maybe some beater integra to replace it (that'd I leave mostly stock).

Or my real dream...a car whose engine has the numbers/and or letters of 302, 4.6, LT1 ,or LS1.

Keep your Legacy. Integra insurance is going to be much higher than that of your Legacy. I also had dreams of my own. Something 4x4 with big mud tires that could go anywhere. Now that I have it, it's for sale because I want my legacy back.

i actually started to laugh out loud because it's true.
Its not fun having a car that 1 billion people has.
Legacies aren't that popular in the automotive indust.(at least so i think) so making it unique takes skill and taste.

U can easily get integra betteryet honda body kits off eBay or in a junkyard so at least 1000 cars in america looks the same.

The only reason reason I'd an integra is to beat the every loving shit out of it. I really don't like them, or FWD.

I'm not putting too much into my legacy. For one thing...it's slow for me ,and so far besides being easy to work on, realibility has not been great.

not to argue with you, but since the aftermarket for legacys is virturally none when it comes to appearance pretty much every legacy looks the same. they all have the same hood scoop or no scoop, all have the jdm head lights or stock head lights. all have the gt wing or no wing. see what i mean? atleast with hondas and integras there is like 50 thousand different front ends to choose from even if there is 2000 of the exact same around the world. but with honda civic and acura integra being the most stolen, insurence for them is going to be high lol. plus awd and 4 doors are discounts in the insurence world, integras are concidered sports cars now i believe, so that doesnt help at all either.

id deff stick with a legacy, new 2.5 swap and your golden. but if you must change cars, you cant go wrong with a f body ls1.

Alot of cars are just the same. What made mine different were mods, like the MSD etc. My main issue with dumping $$$ into this car is the body is not int he greatest shape, my rear quater panels are fairly bad, trunk, doors ,all have some rust. It's just not worth swaping or even building the ej22/ej18 hybrid i've always dreamed of. If the body was good i'd consider it...

Here in NY legacy's are expensive AND VERY COMMON. There's really nothing special in owning one, just modifying one.

My area is the boonies. I don't have to worry about my car being stolen.

I WILL agree the f body and lt1 statement

well deff 2 very different sides of the coast, BD's over here are a dime a dozen lol. and are rust less, we just dont get the rust like a lot of places do thank god! so in that case i see where your coming from. but rust is also very fixable if you put the time into it.

but i guess i do have to say that a f body is a great project too. while im a bigger fan of the ls1 motor, the lt1 can crank out some serious power with out much work. you can pull 3-400 with out even trying.

The trunk and doors are still workable ,the rear corner panels need replacing. :-( I've actually already replaced one door.

I like both ls1's and lt1's. Probably a 93-98 f body would be in my price range (probably a Camaro because the firebirds are more expensive)...I just want a six speed whichever v8 I get...ethier are fine with me. I'd almost consider a 3.8 five speed if I could get it cheap enough and could find a decent m90 for it. With the the mustangs..well they are simply easier to come by than f bodies here, but they also don't handle as well and if it's a 302 it will need a dry sump oil pan.

Also, what's nice with switching back to American is that parts are here, and cheaper.

SPR's comment is true about Legacy parts. It's pretty much one or the other. In our community what really sets us apart is body color and rim selection. Almost everyone wants the GT hood and lip trim. Stock or JDM lights, suspension parts, pretty much either whiteline or Cusco. Theres no getting away from the rest really.

just so you know 98 is a new body style which is when the ls1 cam out, 93-97 is the older body style with the lt1. either way you cant go wrong, i just personally like the 98+ head lights a little better.

you just may want to reconsider that before you give up on the leggy.

If the BD's are a dime a dozen, there should be plenty of engines around - unless they're always in demand because the shells are in such good shape?

Valve springs are shot I guess. I need more info form the guy ,but it sounds like I'm ethier going to need a rebuilt head, or a new(used) one.

We'll see...at all depends on the cost.

Well, I'm going to the mechanic's shop tomarrow. Something doesn't add up with what he's telling me. If that's the case he chose the wrong Suabru owner to mess with.

Or, maybe he's just lazy...but it sounds like to replace the lifters or springs he wnats to take the ehad off....if that's the case i'll fix it myself. I can do it.

If it's just the lifters or springs it's not a big deal really. He was sounding like there was not acutal valve damage, and being a non interfernce engine with only around 100k...I wasn't really expecting any.

It sounds like i'll be keeping 'er.

Well, i'm keeping her.

Got a 95 ej22 with 80-90k on it for $400 flat. Dual port to boot. I'm having a mechanic put it in, he's only charging me 250-$300 to swap them so, all in all around $600-$700 for the whole deal. Cheaper than a new car I guess. Time to save for the borla knock off.

I'm keeping my old ej22 and may build a hybrid with ej18 heads, or just just rebuild the heads and have an extra engine. I also might sell it...anybody interested?

So, I still have mods to do when I get it back, open up the hood scoop, and the pads and rotors which still sit in my old eclipse. Along with some emergency body work.

There's a fair number of japanese body kits for our cars. Not as many as an integra, but there are a lot. I bought a Japanese Hyper rev book to get a good look at them all.

Unfortunatley the kits require that you sell your first born in order to afford them. And at the price they want, most people would rather dump the cash into power or suspension mods.

Heh, it also helps confirm my theory that all 95 EJ22s came with the dual port heads. There's been a lot of wrong info pointing to them having only single port heads.

but since mine also has dual port...

Well, it's back up and running and i've put almost 1000 miles on the new engine already. My first oil change was shortly after I go the engine. Got that old mineral out of there and put half sythedic and half mineral in as well as a new k&n filter. No problems except for some loud lifter noise which is obnoxious. I think it might go away with time, this is an old abeit low mileage 1995 motor.

Impressions of the dual port is that it seems to have a little less torque ,but that could be due to old pluggs and wires as well as lack of MSD. (which I need to change) However, I feel the dual ports breathe better at higher RPM. I can hit the speed limiter alot eaiser with the dual port. Also, my hood scoop in now open and functional and i've done some body work recently as well. It's looking better. I plan on getting some headers, ethier borla or knock off ,and reworking the exhaust system soon, probably high flow cat and maybe a flowmaster...

My old motor is covered by a tarp on my porch. I'm ethier going to keep it for part or a ej18 head hybrid compression monster ,or maybe rebuilt it or sell it. Anybody interested in a ej22 that needs a new valve?

You need to look at your hydraulic lash adjusters. They are probably collapsed. There's the pull and refill method I've outlined here:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=784314

Recently I switched to diesel oil (Delo400 15w40) and after 500 miles the detergents seemed to have cleaned out my oil passages and my sticky lifter is now no longer making noise.

Actually I think part of the problem is really the warped header letting alot of the valve noise out. Just found today how badly it's warped.
