One of my friends just got one. She loves it, I dont care for the interior too much. I took it for a ride, I guess it's ok. Not something I would buy (not saying that it's bad).

Well i am getting a new car, lettin my legacy go :(


I got a new position at my job so i rather to get a new car with warranty because i will be doing a whole lot of driving around. my Legacy is in a good condition but just to be on the safest side i am getting something new but i dont want something i am gonna be tempted to spend money on(customizing).

You'd be better to ask if a 2005 vehicle is reliable.

If you're a modder, you're a modder - doesn't matter if you buy a new car or not.

My advice to you is to take the new job, pretend you're still earning the same pay from the old job, sock the extra cash away in a nice savings account until you really want to get something nice.

Don't take on a new car payment, unless you like renting your own car.

i heard about dodgerecalling some vehicles to change some parts on it, just wanted to know if any problems like that are experienced with this one.

I thought about that huffer but the thing is that i am gonna be on call 24/7 and if i have any car problems their might be a chance i get called up during the repairs and not only that if the car had to be held overnight i am screwed because i cant just borrow or even rent a car from rental company because of my age, My name would have to be put on the insurance for the car to be covered while i am behind the wheel. but the dealers would definately issue me a ride in that instance.

If you think that buying a any brand new car guarantees you reliability, you are mistaken. However if you insist, get a honda civic, cheap and indestructible. I rarely agree with huffer but new cars are not a good financial decision. My preference is a 3 year curve for the best price vs reliability with around 30-40k miles.

P.S......not gonna be tempted to mod? I call BS, you'd mod a garbage truck if you got one.

There are way better choices out there Like a mazda 3, sentra, Mazda 5, or even a civic.

Hell, I'd take a cobalt over a caliber.

I would have to buy one from miami or so but in the long run i would be paying a shitload of cash to get it here.

Price of the car + roughly about $2000 for shipping + $100 for insurance + 30% to clear customs = Allota Cash

On top of that i gotta insure the car before it gets released from customs + Licensesing.

A friend wanted a Civic SIR from miami, the car cost $23 or 25grand i cant remember .. after all fees are calculated he would end up paying nearly $40g's.

I test drove the mazda 6 :-/ its good but i dont think front wheel drive is the thing for me lol.

I will be getting a house next year hopefully if i get the car or not.

I think i might take huffs advice.

I had a rental caliber and it was a rolling pile of shit. The only thing that i liked was the motor, and only because i fantasized about it in a neon hooked to a proper 5 speed. At the very least since you sound like you have your heart set on it even after it's been pointed out that it's a pile, i'd suggest driving one to be SURE you want it first.

my gf works in a car rental place. She didn't like it, said it felt cheap and handled poorly. But it ran, and stopped, so i guess that's something. I don't have any information regarding service bulletins or recalls.

The caliber is possibly the worst move Chrysler has made in the last 5 years.

And they've done some pretty stupid ish.

It doesn't get as good fuel economy (when it replaced a f'n economy car)
It's heavier
It's slower
It doesn't handle as well
And it's a dodge. Well, that's the same as the old Neon, but still.

It's a rolling pile of junk. Don't touch it.

BTW- I've noticed that most car ignorant folk (mostly women, no offense, but it's true) say that any new car they own is awesome -- until it gets above 50,000 miles, and then they admit that it may or may not be a piece of junk.

2007 Dodge Caliber SXT - My brother has one and at first he was amazed by it because of all the space and neat features (like a detachable dome light that turns into a flash light). Now, he hates it. It has NO PICK UP.. I took it for a drive up in the country cottage roads (really hilly) and it has no torque what so ever. In 3rd gear my legacy can pull and you feel it.. this piece of shit barely got up the hill in 2nd. Another thing.. this car has the worst blind spots ever!!

On the highway, passing cars is a mission.. again, there is no top end and if you need to pass someone quick for whatever reason, good luck with this car. My brother is going to try to get rid of this and I'm persuading him to get a Subaru of some sort :P

2006 Mazda 6 Sport Package - This is the highest model available before the 6 Speed. My friend just purchased one of these and he loves it! This thing is a really good car, he got a good deal and even has stock HIDs. (That shouldn't be one of your reasons for getting a new car anyway.) There's been no problems, it's quick, sporty, and responsive. Though after a while the stiffness of the car fades and your body roll increases. He only noticed this when I installed my rear sway bar and now he wants to start modding his car.

PS - Both cars are 5 speed.

To the caliber's credit, the 2.0 CVT was decently quicker than the 2.2 4EAT legacy at all speeds in my... uhhh... "independent testing." I suppose a 2.5 GT would probably be quicker though.

The Mazda6 is a great car. Racing Beat have some excellent upgrades for it (sways and springs). It's never going to be as fast as a Caddy CTS but it's a very fun and roomy car to drive. Excellent interiors too.

Totally agree.. it feels and looks like a quality build unlike the Caliber which is all plastic lego-like.

My wife had an 03 Mazda 6. Never had a problem with it and the pick up was excellent. Easy to spin the fronts on stock tires if you romped on it.
We had to sell it though :( but we saved $320 a month on payments.
Now, she's rocking the 03 Accord because 03 Mazda6's couldn't be found for under $10k.

Yep,its between the 6th and 5th floor only problem i am gonna have is looters, their isnt any trees that high where i am parked so no projectiles.

A big tarp anchored underneath the car, with foam under the tarp to provide some protection would probably work...
I'd park near a big support structure... hope you have good insurance!

If you like the Caliber, consider the Jeep Patriot. Same platform as the Caliber, but when equipped with 4WD it could be cheaper than the similarly equipped Caliber. More ground clearance for the floods :)

But yeah, you might want to get the 5-speed over the CVT.

My buddy has an '06 Caliber either R/T or SXT - I can't remember but it has the chrome 18's, is FWD and 5spd.

It has all the amenities: sunroof, 6 dis changer, heated leather seats, half descent audio system. It drives ok, but as with our NA Suby's it's not the fastest car in the world and also isn't the greatest on gas for the size of motor it has.

Interior is alright space wise, but I have a real tough time getting over the choise of materials from Chrysler. EVERYTHING inside the car feels cheap. The leather seats are only leather "seating surfaces", the dash feels like a piece of pvc pipe but with texture. Most annoying to me is teh shifter. You'd think that buying a car with "leather seats" and 18" chromies you'd at least get a leather shifter... nope, it a cheap rubber thing with a plastic chrome cap on the top. I'm pretty sure its even a rubber boot.

Problems he has with it:
- Rear tailights have let moisture into them (both of them) and were replaced under warranty - twice. The pasenger rear tailight is letting moisture in again.
- The car litterally wants to stall out until it warms up (opposite of my Suby :grin: ) but the dealer can't find anything wrong.
- There was something else, but I can't remember. It might have been that I spilled chinese food all over his backseat when I was hammered one night and stained a bit of the carpet with that red sauce they have for the chicken balls.
