Do you know how long it's been torn? If it has been more than a little bit of time, you're probably looking at the whole CV joint.

rebuilt axles at autozone or whatever for $50 with a lifetime warranty. I don't even screw with the stupid boots anymore I just get an axles with rebuilt cv's and new boots and clamps and everthing already assembled. that little snap ring that hold the cv on is too much hassle to deal with for a few dollars difference.

Yep, replace the whole axle... you can usually get a reman. unit for little more than the cost of the boot & cv joint.
I have to do this at some point also...*sigh*

I agree. One of our members did a pretty good writeup on how to do this.

Depending on the year, I just checked out mine:

i just bought new axles from Napa Auto Parts for $80/axle....and you can bring in your old ones and get some cash back. They fix your olds and resell them as remans.

Whats it like to have a CV joint go like that? Any collateral damage?
definitely just replace the whole thing. I replaced the boot, and 3 months later it was clicking, so it has to be replaced anyway.

autozone 59.99 if you bring your busted cv in for a core, and in stock too.
I will pick it up today I guess
