Is it possible to swap a tranny from Legacy 2.2 SW 96 to Legacy Sedan 2.0 95?

I would change also the rear drive shaft and maybe the rear differential.

Do I need also to change the axles and the rear suspension or do they fit from my car?

I am also concerned how will the engine behave after the swap. Will the performance be the same?

Thanks for helping me.

I thought the 95 Legacies were 1.8 or 2.2?

Ok... going back to the original post then,

Is there a difference in the gear ratios? If not, then it should all bolt up and run just like before. If there is a difference (say final drive 5th gear), then you might find that your shift points change. You might end up cruising at
2200rpm in 5th @ 70mph instead of
2500rpm in 5th @ 70mph

I don't know the gear ratios for mine, I couldn't find that info for 2.0.

Are the axles (halfshafts) the same for all 95 and 96 Legacies?

Probably... Though 95/96 was a popular year for Subaru worldwide to make weird revision changes....

I've got some more info about the donor car. From vin code my car is my94 and so is the donor car.

Some more questions are bothering me

Could the axles be thicker because of more powerful engine on the donor car?
Are the inner CV joints different?

Will this 2.2 tranny have any effect on the torque of 2.0 engine?

Sorry if I am asking something stupid, I'm not a mechanic.

Don't feel bad about asking stuff, that's what forums are for.

Sorry if the responses haven't been very helpful, a lot of us only have experience with the USDM 2.2-2.5-1.8 Liter engines and trannies that were availible here.

I seriously doubt the 2.2 car is any different in terms of axles and cv joints.

Torque isn't affected by transmission ratios - only engine/exhaust mods.
Like I said, the only reason for a change would be if the gear ratios/final drive changed, then you'd have to relearn your shift patterns.

Oh shifting is not a problem at all

Hello lgt2000 I live in Ljubljana

I have one more question about my swap.

What about the indicator for high and low gears, I assume I must connect something to something else?
