Car related news, anyway. My wife is pursuing a degree in speech pathology. So, she's a member of the american speech language and hearing association. I was browsing their website, and found this:

http://www.asha.org/about/membership-ce ... rufaqs.htm (http://www.asha.org/about/membership-certification/subarufaqs.htm)

Both of our cars will be paid off in the spring, and I'm incredibly excited about not having a car payment. I can't stress enough how important it is for me to not have a car payment for as long as possible. But when the time comes to buy another car, you can bet I'll be taking advantage of this.

So it's a pricing plan for buying a new car?

All I know is that my wife's teacher just bought a new forester for way less than MSRP. He said the price was even less than the dealer invoice listed on the sticker. They met him at the door, brought him coffee and doughnuts, and treated him like royalty. All the other sales people and managers kept coming in the office to meet him cause they thought she was someone important.

He could have skewed the story a bit, but the point is that it's a discount on all the cars I would have paid full price for.

1. You should never pay full price.
2. I got similar treatment when buying a USED car - I didn't need financing
3. Donuts and hello's from the sales people are just sales techniques. You leave there feeling good about it.

Bottom line - if you want, and you have money (not financing) you can buy any car you want from any dealer.

new car "VIP" buying programs don't offer any real buying power. You still get shafted on the automatic devaluation the minute the papers are signed.

don't believe the hype.

It's just like "$1 over invoice" sales and shit. They aren't stupid, they still get money from subaru, and so does the individual salesman into an account for what they sell.

Huffers got it pretty well right on.

the company i work for also has a VIP program with subaru, but it's only for new cars. It's a shame, a thousand bucks off a used baja would have helped a lot.
