Hey guys/gals. I've been on this board looking for some help/advice. Hopefully someone can show me the correct thread(s). I've been a honda guy for a long time, but my family is growing and I'm looking at buying either a 98-99 or 00-01 Legacy wagon or Outback wagon. I know the legacy wagons can be lowered, but what about the outbacks? I want a lowered wagon.

An Outback is a raised Legacy wagon with a few cosmetic changes. The same years 96-99 outback/Legacy are the same 00-04 are the same.

Quick word of advice - the 03-06 Accord has as much load space as a 1995-99 Legacy wagon - its not quite as configurable as the wagon, but you can still chuck a crapload of stuff in there.

With the wagon, you can still only cram 3 kids back there, but unfortunately only 2 carseats.

to answer your question, either can be lowered.
But, because the outback has extra body cladding, it weighs more.

Here's a LOW outback, his username is "OutbackGT":

Huffer - I see you own an accord and a wagon. I have to take your advice on the hauling capacity. Seems you could get more stuff in a wagon though. I was mostly curious to see if you could lower the outbacks. Looks like the gt-b suspension is the way to do it.

I live in WI, so the awd would be nice in the winter, but I've had numerous accords. I would be looking for a 98-02 accord, due to my budget.

The 96-99 outbacks are a cinch to lower. Just new springs and struts. The 00-04 are more difficult due to the lack of parts, but still possible.

I have compared both load spaces on the 03 Accord and the wagon - they're about the same depth and width in terms of trunk and hatch size. I can haul the same loads in both. The advantage the Accord has is in cabin size. I can easily get two fullsize baby seats in there and a 4'8" preteen. I can't do that in the Legacy wagon because the cabin is smaller.

If your budget is in line with an 98-02 Accord, then you'd probably be looking at around a 99-01 Legacy wagon. I would go for the 99 wagon, because that was the last year before they switched bodystyles, parts are readily available and the cabin space "feels" larger than on the 3rd gen chassis.

I picked up my 98 GT wagon for $7500 - 91k on the clock with some nice mods already done to it.
