View Full Version : this swap even worth it?
i still havnt found the BD legacy i want but.... im getting close im looking seriously at a couple right now. but i found this for sale... i wanted to throw in a EJ20 motor, so im pretty set there with this deal, but do i really need the axles brakes struts subframes and rear diff? are any of them actually better than whats stock on the legacy. i was thinking someone said the trannys were the same. (if they were both 5spds) basically i just dont want to buy it all, if its not going to do me any good. but i got no problem dropping 2k on all of it now if it will help me in the future. anyway give me some opinions, havnt got to swap a legacy yet, so im a newb on it lol.
02 wrx drivetrain including:
engine
tranny
all 4 axles
all 4 brakes
all 4 struts with eibach springs
front and rear subframes

$2000

Buy it - if it's all in good shape, it'll be decent to have around.
Bottom line - the newer stuff is newer.

good point newer is newer lol. but i dont want to buy it, if its the same as whats on the car. i want to upgrade. not a couple years newer grade. so i dont want to waste my money on the same rear diff when i could put that money towards a sti diff or something even stronger. thats what im getting at. i can always keep the stock around for a spare, but i doubt i would even do that, if i break the car it can go sit in the shop for a year as far as im concerned it wont be a DD so it doesnt matter. but with all my projects and other junk and play toys i have laying around i really dont have all that much room to be storing extra parts i really dont need. so i dont want to buy what really doesnt need to be bought.

Ok, well you won't have to worry about the subframe, but the suspension and rear diff etc would be good to have around simply because of the ability to replace items.
You could crack the diff case & the transmission and swap out gears etc. Having the cases means it's much easier.
Work out what it might cost to buy each part individually - still way more than $2000.
You could buy it and sell what you don't need.
If you're not going to DD this car, then you will definitely need spare parts ;)
