From some Japanese mag, at least the grille looks a bit nicer. If they would put normal taillights in there I would almost have to say its good looking.

First mod people will do - tint the taillights and replace the grille.
Looks like the grille is removable too.

i think there's enough "Subaru-ness" to tell them apart.

It also seem to me when a car resembles another car in any way, it's turned into a negative thing.

Just my observations.

well when you look at a toyota corolla its a low class pos car. when you look at a subaru it a higher class and a lot nicer car. but when you turn a subaru into a toyota, its a negitive thing.

i dont see how you can say it still looks like a subaru. it doesnt even come close to resembling any subaru. even the badass suby hood scoop was ruined this year. i know for sure if i were to upgrade my 06 STI it would just be for a 07. the only thing that still keeps this car a suby is the power/drivetrain. im sorry but they ruined the styling this year, im glad they didnt the performance at very least.

The BD/BG legacy didn't have the "badass suby hood scoop", as for the drivetrain - the AWD system is overrated and desperately needs a redesign. Sure, the DCCD is nice, but the Evo's had that for what, 3 gens already?

Anytime a Honda Fit on decent tires has a higher lateral grip on a skidpad than a WRX, we're in trouble.

Since when have Subarus been high class? The Impreza is in the SAME CLASS as the corolla. It's just a different car.

I couldn't care less what it looks like if it's a good drive. I'd like to see some driving impressions and maybe some specs on the new STi.

If Subaru would use tires better than the RE-92s, they'd get a whole lot better ratings. It's hardly the AWD system's fault when shit hits the fan on those tires. They're awful. Even non-Subaru drivers think so (Look up the reviews on tirerack).

Ok, but when a Honda Fit comes CLOSE to equalling an "AWD turbocharged" vehicle on STOCK tires, on lateral g's, that's embarassing.

OEM vs. OEM, Subaru gets pwned in just about every class. The only cars worth looking at are the Legacy and the Tribeca (2008 model only).

Well, it is really light. That helps a ton.

Again, so many of the issues people with the WRX (handling, skidpad, etc) come right down to those POS tires. I wish Subaru would delete that contract with Bridgestone.

Well the Mazda6 gets 0.84g on the skidpad on equally shitty Michelin MX4 all-seasons.

look back to the 80's when almost every car looked like a cardboard box on wheels with minor differences.

This is the same thing just twenty years later.

The new Accord coupe looks a lot like a Camry, and the new Legacy's, doesn't mean that's bad.

The ones that are really different the public seems to reject, like the VehiCross that Isuzu had, and the aztek (which imo really is ugly).

Not to mention that almost every new Impreza seems to start off with omg i hate it since the bugeye.

All in opinion I guess.

first were not talking about legacys, we are talking about imprezas which have kept the same basica design in their hood scoop that is so signature since the 1st gen. now it just looks like a over sized dodge srt4 scoop.

2nd i dont konw what toyota your driving but ive never sat in a toyota and liked the interior. they have always been cheap to me. when i was shoping for my truck back in winter of 06 i bought a 05 frontier over a 06 tacoma mainly because of the interior, its just cheap looking to me. now the suby on other hand, i really like all my friends impreza/wrx's interior and i love my STI interior. never seen a toyota come close to looking as nice.

and i think you guys are under estimating front wheel drive. a well designed FWD will keep up if not pass an awd. tipiclally stock no they arnt that great, but a well tuned and designed. they can hold their own on the track/twisties.

Thank Car and Driver for these damn comparisons. Yes it makes sense to compare cars they way they are from the factory, but it makes for these annoying arguments. You really can’t honestly say that car “A” is better than similar car “B” when they each have different tires on them. The variables should be the cars themselves not the rubber.

RE92’s aren’t terrible tires. There are two WRX’s in my parent’s garage - an 06 and 07 - and the tires that came on them are just fine for all seasons. Sure they can be better, and they sure as hell aren’t going to be on either of those cars for much longer, but they aren’t bad. In my opinion, the majority of ratings on tirerack come from people who are driving the car hard, and yes they aren’t meant for that.

I think the reason that I like the way a Subaru looks is because I like what the cars are about. And it is because of the function of these cars that the looks have grown on me over time. The more I keep seeing the 08 WRX, the more I really like it. Sure there are better looking cars out there, and if that is what concerns you most, buy accordingly.

Sorry ‘bout my midnight rant guys.

actually, that hood scoop was designed for a subaru along time ago. It was designed and produced by PROVA in Japan and only a few were produced and used on promotion cars. I've only seen one in the states..

I honestly like the integrated scoop. What I hated was when i looked under the hood, the freakin' intercooler was soo tiny.

As for the taillights: I bet Rockblocker is already in the process of making a red coating for them.

from what i've been reading, its actually alittle thicker, which improve its performance and is the reason its smaller..

Honeslty, Subaru is starting to let me down with the styling of their cars.

But then again, different strokes for different folks.

I definitely like it. Just about as beefy as the concept photos.

And yes, there will be folks that just don't like it at all. I was one of them until I saw the body kit package for the USDM WRX, and then the concept STi photos grabbed my attention.

Definitely a cool-looking ride in STi form. Sheesh, even a few select body kit pieces here and there with the new wheels would work on an '08 WRX.

All I'm gonna say is anyone that's throwing away their ride can send it my way.

Well the Mazda6 gets 0.84g on the skidpad on equally shitty Michelin MX4 all-seasons.

I love those shitty tires! I loved it when accords came with them in a size i could run on my legacy... i think i went through 4 sets. Sure, the overall grip wasn't phenominal, but they were quiet, long wearing (10k a set was amazing for me then) and the breakaway was soooo smooooth. You could understeer, correct, oversteer, and catch and never feel a bobble. I'd buy some now if i could justify their cost... they just don't flood the 'gently used' market like they used to.

Anyway, the Fit getting better skidpad numbers means absolutely nothing. Skidpad # doesn't tell you anything about CoG, and a good set of tires (or an alignment!) is worth a buttload. About the only think you might be able to infer from it is that the impreza CONTINUES to understeer like a barge. Whatever.

The first time i saw the new imp i went to the subaru website, and i thought i was looking at a protege.
