View Full Version : 1998 Legacy wagon rework.
my friend and i are fixing up his wagon, turning it to a decent showable ride.
so so far we have swapped the old single din/pocket am fm cassette radio for a 6 disc changer out of my 06 STI, dark red suede door cards, and some sti racing buckets. and ill include the engine bay paint in here too.
our next goal is figuring out the back seat. any one know if a wrx wagon rear seat will fit very well??? other wise not sure how we are going to get it looking nice.
but next we are going to work on the carpet, prob taking it to black insted of grey. a harness bar with some 5 point harnesses, and then some more cool little custom tricks that you'll have to wait and see about! not going to spoil everything all at once!
also going to start the exterior very very soon. so ill prob have a thread in there before long. anyway i know this thread is worthless with out pictures, so here they are!!
no before, sorry just after.

not totally finished. we ran out of time and had to put the car back together. the paint matches the car flawlessly when its totally done. but in this pic the only thing that has the proper amount of coats in the bat tie down.. give me a little time ill update this pic. but for now.... the after..

Is that a NOS bottle I see? Is it hooked up?

You best bet would be to have an interior shop re wrap the rears to match the front's. That's what I would do anyway.

lol exactly. ill steal it back from him some day, but for now i dont really care lol.
we worked on tinting his windows last night and come to the conclusion thats about the only thing i cant do around cars LOL. so i guess were going to have to pay to have that done. pretty depressing i cant believe of all things, window tint master me.
so i guess on to the next thing, prob the harness bar.
oh and the color matching isnt done, i dont see how you can say nice job, i appreciated it, but the color isnt even close right now lol. needs a good 3 or 4 more coats before it truley darkens up enough to match perfect. but thanks anyway!

I hope you plan on matching the yellow caps. That should bring it all together once you have the desired shade down, keep us updated with pics.

you know i tried telling him that, i did it on my sti too, looks good but do you think he is going to listen? nope lol. he is leaving them yellow and going over the letters with a red paint pen. so yellow caps, red letters/logo
and i think we are buying the tubing here in the next day or 2 to start the harness bar, it will also get color matched with the rest of the car. then throw in the 5 point harnesses, and one more thing knocked off the list.
still trying to find out if a wrx wagon seat will work thou. something a little better than having the rear redone, which around here cost outrageous!

when's the 5speed swap? That woulda been my first step
actually we are toying with that idea... but we are holding off cuz he is still thinking about wrx swapping the motor. so if he does then he will 5 spd swap for sure. but it will be aways down the road. thats a little more expensive than most things lol.

Those parts were bought at some point
what if someone that works in the factory where they are made stole them from work. then they were never bought.
but i suppose your going to say the materials were bought, so i give up. you win lol.
point is, why buy when you can build. makes the car more "yours"

Here's the other rule of modifications:
Don't mod what you can buy stock.
:)
lol very true. but a good modifier can make anything work so he should never have to buy stock again :P
anyway right now the rocket scientist and i are working on repairing his car after he decided to try and take a 30 mph corner at 70 and slid out into a field.... needless to say this car is pretty messed up right now haha.
think im going to talk him into selling it and starting over from scratch on a different wagon or something lol.

I saw those "STi" seats on Portland's craigslist not too long ago. They were in some guys totaled GC Impreza. I asked him how much he'd sell them for and he never responded. I like the interior refinements you & your friend did.
Are they real STi seats? They look pretty nice. If your friend is totaled his wagon and is parting it out, I'd love the rear passenger side door... my car is the same color.

LOL yup those were the same seats!! good eye. that kid was a douche bag, he was asking 240 i think but we ripped him off on accident and paided 220. then we just didnt feel like fixing our mistake haha.
well good news looks like its going to cost him 225 to get his car straightened and fixed. so i dont think he is going to part it out. but thats still a possibilty.
as for being "real" sti seats. im pretty positive STI never made a seat like this. they look like those ebay brand racing buckets with sti logos stitched into them. but they are very nice seats and quite comfortable actually. just a little slipry and cold.

You must have small thighs. I weigh 180lbs and I fit the STi seats perfectly.
06 USDM y0!
yeah im a small guy 130 pounds, and i feel right at home in my 06 sti seat, my friends 04 sti seat, and my other friends 07 wrx seat which looks exactly like a sti seat just not blue suede. they dont seem that big to me. i think chips "fake" sti seats are actually wider than subaru sti seats.

They come like that on eBay, I haven't seen any for some time though.
he paid $220 for both of them off craigslist. they were basically brand new, the sliders that came with them hadn't even been used yet.
they arn't really a leather. they are more of a vinyl. and they are black with the pink sti logos. they are pretty nice seats weather they are ebay knock offs or not. but you have to custom make brackets, or drill new wholes in your car.
custom brackets are easy....
heres a pic of his glovebox..

yeah its the same micro suede used on the door cards. it was the left overs...
i kinda had the same thought u did, mexican low rider, or black mans escalade/hummer. every rap star suedes everything in his hummer.

Does the 6CD Deck fit right in with no modifications?
Does the 6CD Deck fit right in with no modifications?
yes. use the brackets off the stock stereo, theres 3 bolts for each one. they bolt right to the 6 disc. and then it just plugs right in. slip it in, put the 4 bolts in and put the trim back on. no modifications at all. the 08 deck how ever might be different, i havnt looked at it yet. but any deck from 02-07 is plug and play
heres the wrx black carpet swap we did...
FYI not worth it. dye your stock carpet.

actaully i dont smoke at all ima drinker . i donbt like the llok of paint it looks tachy and cheap . if you look in the october issue of subiesport magazine the article unexpected encounter, the wrx wagon did the same thing in grey seude . the seats are ngk's warpped in a viynl sti pattern.i aslo learned this by looking in subie sport . they are the same seat just diffrent wraps then the saets subie sport used . the six disc as chace said is simple bolt in took ten mins to do
i think that the carpet swap if done properly looks good dying has potential to bleed out when wet and it is messy
