clutch master cylinder differences?

im swapping in a 97 lgt 5sp tranny into a 95. all i have left to find is the pedals and master cylinder/ slave cylinder assemblys
i found a 05 wrx master cylinder on ebay.. will this work?

not sure about the 05 wrx brackets, you really want to find a pre-98 MC if you can though.

Up until 1998 cars with hydraulic clutches have a separate master cylinder and damper, so you can ditch the damper and gain much better clutch feel.

Later years have the damper integrated into the MC, so you're stuck with it.

What's the tradeoff for better clutch feel? Vibrations and noise?

Just curious, I'm sticking with my cable clutch for now...

personally I have not seen a vast deal or difference in feel between a cable clutch and a hydrolic clutch. NVH either. The clutch itself to me makes a far far greater difference. But I do agree being able to pull the damper is a worthwhile thing to do

Basically the damper is there partly to absorb any small vibrations as the clutch takes up and to stop you from sidestepping the clutch and breaking stuff.

If you remove it you can better feel what the clutch is doing and the speed of the clutch release is regulated only by your foot. The feel is further improved because you can also eliminate 2 feet of hose, my clutch line is only 12" long.

Just to be clear, I'm talking about the differences between the pre-98 hydraulic clutch with separate damper, the 98+ hydraulic clutch with integrated damper, and the pre-98 hydraulic clutch with the damper removed. Cable clutches are a whole different issue that I'm not qualified to comment on (never driven a cable-clutch suby).

I feel you, and know exactly what your talking about, just about every honda swap I did, I pulled the hydrolic damper out for them for feel and never had any issues with it at all
